Auto refresh the cause of lag?

can is the auto refresh the cause of lag? I remember in the old version we didn't have autorefresh and didn't have lag...

So the chase are 3:

Auto refresh cause lag
Dumb people click every 2 seconds and cause lag
Auto refresh + Dumb people

I don´t have any lags, so i don´t think that this is the problem.
