Re: Teamattack 19h Tour des paves
On Sunday, I messed-up the race, which cost me the race win. The victim: myself.
Today, I messed-up it again. The victim: Black Star.
I am experienced enough to handle a team attack properly—but today, I completely failed to do so!
My apologies to Black Star—for whatever that’s worth.
I was incredibly busy at work today, and the overtime lasted longer than I had intended. I had set up my race settings earlier in the day. When the race started, I had just finished work, but I was still at the office.
My wife called right as the race began.
I couldn’t manage both things at once—talking to her and making the right moves in the game.
To make matters worse, the two riders I had set to attack at the 3km mark actually went for it. With my wife on the phone and the game also running on my phone, I momentarily mistook this for the team attack. I realized too late that having four riders follow was, in fact, the team attack. It was foolish and wrong. I couldn’t correct it in time, so I stuck to my original plan—trying to take one of the two KOMs. Another mistake. There is no excuse for this.
My explanation: My nervous system has yet to recover following a serious illness. I am olso scheduled for kidney surgery in mid-December. My energy levels are low; I am extremely busy and very tired. I feel little understanding from the outside world. A burnout is looming.
I am deeply frustrated with how I handled this race. My mistake: it all just became too much for me. I don’t expect your understanding. Nor do I need it. I raced foolishly and incorrectly today, but the show must go on.
