Stone cold Steingrimur steals win in Québec

Steingrimur Steinsson wins the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec. He's the fifth Team FL rider to do so.

It's Canadian weekend for Team FL! And it started with a bang. Although the profile of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec doesn't really fit the current Team FL roster, it was enough for another Steinsson win. But while in Paris it was Steindor, today it was Steingrimur who finished first. Joining the early escape, the peloton could not manage to chatch the good working group once it was gone. Working well togther, the fight for the win started around 15 km before the finish line. Feeling good, Steingrimur continued to work and launched his attack 2 km before the finish line, where nobody could follow the Icelandic pavé specialist anymore. Consequently, he crossed the finish line solo, while his team mates in the back. almost forgot to ride out of joy. The feeling to win in Canada is not unknown for Liechtenstein cycling team. Four Team FL riders have done it before: Harry Hole in 2012, Eric Lichtenstein in 2015, Zacharias zahn in 2022 and Julio "JJ" Juantorena in 2023. No we're looking forward to the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, most likely with the same line up. Will it also be the same winner?
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.

Canadian Combo for Team FL!

Ricardo Rocha wins the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal and completes the Canadian combo for Team FL.

This time, Steingrimur Steinsson let others shine after his win at the GP Cycliste de Québec on friday and focused on helping Felikss Fokerots to stay with the main favourites in the peloton until the end. And well, what can I say, both worked very well, almost in a copy of Friday's race. Oldie but goldie Ricardo Rocha joined the early escape together with Raimo Rautsepp, who worked for Steingrimur's win too. A good omen. So good, Ricardo and his fellow group mates reached the finish line almost half a minute in front of the main favourites. On the last 500m Ricardo outsmarted his opponents and used his experience to win the final sprint convincingly. This completes the Canadian Combo for Team FL, a feat that Zacharias Zahn and Aron Armleder have accomplished for Team FL before in 2022. Anyway, all September goals have already been achieved. So now, after the business follows the pleasure.

New is always better

Ricardo Rocha and Urs Unternährer left, Olli Oldorf and Quentin Qvigstad joined Team FL

As usual towards the end of the regular cycling season, Team FL sheds its old skin and renews itself with young and greedy cyclists. On the other hand, familiar faces leave the Liechtenstein cycling team to refocus their life on other things. So while the team management presented Olli Oldorf from Tampere, Finland and Quentin Qvigstad from Bergen, Norway as their latest acquisitions, pavé star Ricardo Rocha and quiet helper Urs Unternährer quit their cycling career. Well, what did that guy in the TV Series say? New is always better... But here, we honour the elderly as well. So, instead of a huge introduction for the new riders, here's the part abut the old ones:

Ricardo Rocha joined the team as a pavé specialist that could survive small hills as well. He won five races, one Youth Jersey and got on the Podium of the Tour des Pavés 2025. Of his five race wins, two were classics wins (In Flanders Fields and Montréal) and one stage win at the Tour de France this year. All in all, he did what he was supposed to, very often not in the way it was supposed to though. He was loved by his team mates, esp. when he made his Pastel de Nata for them after his victories. After 114 Races and 4097 eternal points at the age of 34, he decided to go back to Portugal to open a Casa de Fado in Lissabon.

The story of Urs Unternährer is not that long. 107 races, 21 eternal points. But he did exactly what he was asked to: Stay in the peloton, help the leaders, ride for them, when it was needed, esp. the sprint departement. Urs will stay at Team FL as a mechanic.

So what to do with Ricardo and Urs gone and two new young riders in the Team? Well, try to best to make the rest of the regular season count and prepare the team for the spring season in 2027. Until then, there might be some races worth riding.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.
