deleting the cold climate zones

Post by Cerro Torre RT » Mon Jan 24, 2011 11:05 pm

I am talking about the 2 zones that are "extremly cold". They should be deleted to avoid their misuse.

In general, the known dirrective to chose climate zones is either the most realistic weather for real races, including the the season. For fantasy races, no matter when they were raced, the season the weather should be orientated at is either the best for cycling in this region or at least a season where there would take place cycling races if beeing in this region or country.

Those 2 climate zones were made back when there was no hight dependence of the temperatures. Nowadays, high mountain temperatures result of the hight and not of the use of another climate zone.

So we have only to consider the regions of the world that are nearly on sea level. And from those, I know none which has this low temperatures in the best season for clycling, which one it may ever be for that region. The only one i could imagine is Sptzbergen, the northern islands russia, northern alaska and norhtern (far northern) Kanada, and the Antartica. All of those have no infrastructure that allows it to be cycled in a race, and even if a race would be there, it wopuld be one in 3 years or something like that.

So you see, the danger of missuse like it has been those days, for colorado and sachsen paves (which could be worst case in spring, as in Winter there are no cycling races in central europe) is too high and correct uses of those climate zones so extremly small that they should be deleted from the database.

To avoid that races that have been yet drawn might refer on nonexistent climate zones afterwards, leso can send me a list of all races with those climate zones and I will look for the most apropriate one for those races.

Yes, leso delete this zone. It is not necessary anymore, because we have the temperature depending on the altitude.

HOchgebirge, high mountains? yes, has to go.

cold? if it goes it has to be replaced by something else. It's 5-20 I think. Which are ok temperatures, where bike races are being ridden. Problem is with altitude it goes under this 5 of course... but just deleting it doesn't make sense, then 10-25 is the minimum, and that's not perfect either. It can be colder. And max 25 is too warm actually for some races.

Sachsen btw temp. ok so far in our group.. cold, but not 0, so no problem, today 16, yesterday closer to 10, even if it goes lower, ok.

but I can't read anything about this one to take place in early spring, winter or late automn. And during the other seasons, those cold climates are not apropriate as well, especially not in Norway.

Has this been done? If not, do you think the cold climate zones make sense?

Tour of Southland is quite cold, ok no snow, but sometimes there is a harsh weather !
It could be the same for some races in February-Mars in Europe, even in the valleys !
Fantasy races ?
