Evening Giro 2022

I will be there, but not really happy as I am sure to be offline at some stages. And the team really is not good for a GT. Only Wil is a good leader, but seems irrelevant when I will be off at mountain stages. Also no good support for Wil in the team:

#1 Wil Ruprecht - leader
#2 Darren Berrecloth - helper in hilly and flat terrain, will sieb on all gravel roads
#3 Kay deWolf - helper and possible escape guy
#4 Jago Geerts - allround rider
#5 Mattia Guadagnini - flat rider
#6 Pyry Juupalouma - cheap helper
#7 Mads Korneliussen - helper and/or escape guy, lat change against Cas
#8 Edward Muggridge - helper
#9 Twan vanGendt - sprinter

Twan and Jago earned there spots the last month and with 34 it's a nice option to say goodbye.

About 63k to pay every day. So should be no finance problem even with some days off.

No classic as I only have one and this one has below average skills.

Etapa 1:

Early group of 6 riders. A Bearclaw rider a little late but the group waited. Got around 10min max. gap in front of peloton. Gala pretty much chases alone. Help of Liqui comes too late and group is through. Almost nothing happens until the last km, not in front and not in peloton. No attack in front really surprises as there was a big difference in mountain skill. Mads wins with Sprint from 100m as he saved a lot of energy by going out of tempo with around 20 to go. In the back, the strongest climbers are in front, Poke, Liqui and Gala. Ide off today.

Etapa 2:
I did not see much of the ITT but it was very interesting as Loffel won the stage but missed 2sec to overtake Mads in GC and take over the Pink jersey. In our group, the GC fight really starts at the Etna stage.

Etapa 3:
Sprint stage. Small group. Rhodan going for points/Ciclamino. In the end, he takes the jersey for another day, but only because Mads wears Pink. Mads sprinted to 6th with following Otxoa from Gala. Rascon wins the sprint after getting a nice leadout by Winogradow. Speedwagon went from 150m which was too late to overtake Rascon. But if Speedwagon launches earlier, vanGendt takes the win.

Etapa 4:
Early group went with Siinti and Eyvor. First I thought about chasing or following to defend the Ciclamino. But thought about it and was somehow stuck in my decision. Then decided to give Wil a chance. Long and flat hill should have suited him more to get a surprise win. Plus, I did not want to let the group win and earn so many points for Ciclamino. Later also Ide chased and gap came down to under a minute. Then sieb at the pavé and some classics in front. On the climb no strong chase by the climbers but attacks from Poke/Celteam. They chase down the classics but Rascon survives all sieb km and attacks last km for the win. Other climbers attacked each other to come to the line with some sec behind. Good day for Rhodan/Coe as the team will wear rosa and ciclamino tomorrow and leads the chase for maglia azzura.

Etapa 5:
Rhodan dominating the Giro right now. Strong sprint again and sprinter teams with no strong train again and watching each other too long. I was pretty sure Liqui wins it from 100m either way. Maybe I should have started the sprint from 150 but the Liqui would have won, so no regrets for me. Tomorrow another day with hopefully more sprinters in final sprint...

Etapa 6:
Small group. Not dangerous, gave up after last intermediate sprint. Crazy final sprint again. Liqui goes from 450m after being launched by some 5X rider with noone in his wheel. All others watch each other and never got back in front. Anything can happen in bunch sprints here... happy to have some hills coming now.

Etapa 8:
Early group with two Romocs, one Gala, one Poke, one Rhodan an three Bears. Gap up to 16min with some rolling. Then celteam chases in a relaxed way. KM101 Mads attacked. He hoped that Zico will follow and they can go as a duo and the others watch each other. But Zico doesnt follow and start to chase when Mads has around 2min advantage. Gap comes down to a minute and then Rhodan chases, probably to get more ponts for Ciclmano second place. It was sure that Mads couldnt make it until the finish. Last km of last climb Galas Pedro attacks and only Jago can follow. First they ride together, then only Jago. Easy sprint win for Jago as he was less exhausted most likely. As I expected a group coming through the day before Blockhaus stage, i am very happy about this win.

Etapa 9:
Blockhaus stage. About middle of race a group with 4 Pokes and 4 Rhodans was build. They got a big gap until Celteam started to chase. In the end Joseph Joestar was fit enough to win the stage. Really well done by Poke who also secured 2nd as Geronimo looked strong and found the right moment to get away of the 89 climbers.
Grupetto worked ok and came home easily. Special thanks to Olaf as he helped Kay a lot.

Etapa 11:
Boring, at least for this edition. Late attack by Gala. One Romoc and one Liqui follow two Galas. Liqui falls back to peloton. No 100% chase behind and group of three saves one second on the line. Sprint in peloton wins once again Rascon. Best train. Speedwagon did not sprint. No other sprinttrain there.

Early group. Gets chased and stops. More riders join the group later and gap goes up again. Some riders get over the last climb and get into climbers group. Late attack and some followers. Group against main bunch, 2sec, group makes it. Gala wins in sprint.

Small gap, Zeballos behind. Ide off. Gala and Poke working well together and take some more seconds on Liqui and celteam. Gala wins in sprint. Botero at least took over the maglia azzura.

Big group. Going for gpm points and helpers in front. Late attack in the downhil after Mortirolo by Jago/Wil and Torgeir from Olaf following. We were allowed to get away around 3min. Lookes good until final climb when Poke attacked and chased us down. Poke much stronger and wins in sprint. Behind GC fight Gala/Liqui. They look at each other some time until Gala attacks and Liqui follows. So for now Poke with some advantage, but still some days to go.
