Kimchaek - Chongjin

Post by Berliner Bären RC » Sun May 31, 2020 8:54 pm

Small report from the race Kimchaek - Chongjin.

Not many teams had made the trip to Korea, so only the teams Ansach, FCSB, Armorique and Berliner Bären were at the start.
The 177 were equipped with 3 hills of the 4th category, otherwise rather flat, so a mass sprint was to be expected. Gael Cariou (90) (Armorique) and Simon Fischer (85) (Ansach) were the favorites in the peloton as TOP sprinters.
With this starting position, the attack right after the starting line came not surprisingly FCSB and Berliner Bären attacked, with 2 riders each. Armorique managed to catch up with 2 men and so it looked like a successful escape group for quite a while.
Ansach tried to keep up the pace in the pelOton, but let the lead grow to about 6:30 minutes.
Quite early in the race there was disagreement in the leading group, from KM 60 on Berliner Bären and Armorique left the solo leading role to the FCSB.
Armorique changed tactics and seemed to be riding for GAel Cariou, but they sent riders to the front of the peloton to set the pace together with Ansach.
Gilles LeScornnec was sent back to the peloton by Armorique, so 5 riders remained in front.
The lead shrank successively
KM 75 5 minutes
KM 98 4 minutes
KM 114 3 minutes
KM 130 still 2 minutes
Ansach and Armorique seemed to have everything under control with the peloton.

At this point (45 KM before the finish and just before the last category 4 of the day) a surprising move of the FCSB team manager came. ChandraBir Deuna and Francesco Benfatto attacked. Only Quntin and Cloarec from Armorique, as well as Tom Goossens and Cas Willems from the Bären could follow. Noemi LeGuen and Stelio Marokidis were able to catch up with the second group.
For 10 KM the bears tried to lead the 8 men strong leading group but Benfatto was too strong and led the second group.
32 kilometers before the finish, a 13-man leading group formed. Moroccidis and Benfatto were so fast that the peloton had no chance to close the gap.
Nobody managed to put a decisive attack anymore and so the final sprint came from the 13-man group (5 FCSB ChandraBir Deuna(69) /4 Armorique Corentin Cloarec(65) / 4 Bears Tom Goossens(62)).
Sabin Ilie (FCSB) pulled the sprint. Tom Goossens had skillfully pushed into FCSB's sprint move and was able to take advantage of the slipstream, up to 100 meters before the finish, before he fully pulled the sprint. Deuna broke away from the slipstream of Goossens too early and so the rider from the Berliner Bären was able to take the team's first victory ever. In the end he even had time to raise his arms and grin wide into the cameras for the vitory finish photo.

Now I say goodbye, I want to get to the team party quickly.

Don't punish bugusers. We all have to use bugs, since most of them are declared as "features"!
