Tappa 2 Bologna - Fucecchio :

205 km under a fresh sun (no more 10 degrees). A small breakaway go since the first km : Momoko Kitadai (Pokemonogatari), Giacomo Berlato (Heavy Weapons Guy), Marek Suslowaty and Sandalio Santero (guciuzuza) take quickly 4 min but the peloton never let them go far. Km 128 just before to catch them, Tom Fouquet and Morten Lokkebo (Crazy Vikings) and Jürgen Wagner (waerl) do the jump, but they will be catch some km after bythee first peloton : the pack go really fast in a not listed difficulty km 130. All sprinters are in the second peloton except Jacob Jefferson (Gipfelstuermer) and Miki Matsubara (Pokemonogatari). They will never be see again. After an hich speed tempo until the end, Matsubara win a chaotic sprint in front of Jefferson. Bram (Lorient) miss p3 and 4 sec bonus for nothing. Tappa 3 Vinci - Orbetello :

Bis repetitia. top 3 at the end is the same than stage 2 with Jacob Jefferson (Gipfelstuermer) win in front of Miki Matsubara (Pokemonogatari) and Carlos Chimbo (Gipfelstuermer).
The stage start with a breakaway launched since km 1 with Laurent Koscienly (Lorient), Rui Gomes (S L Benfica), Michael Maze and Thomas Kjaer (Bonebreakers). The peloton control, especially Carrera Blue Jeans, and Koscienly stop quickly his effort. The 3 in front have an advantage of 6 minutes max. In front Maze wins the GPM km 182 in front of Gomes. Behind, the peloton accelerate and a lot of riders can't follow, all the sprinters except Jeeferson-Matsubara so, but also Winicjusz Wielki (guciuzuza) is trapped, and lose more than 15 min and his chance for GK !

Re: Giro 22h

Post by Gipfelstuermer » Mon May 20, 2019 11:48 pm

This thread is definitely too empty for 19 teams. So now First rest day after 9 days of racing. So finally time to post. Penalty of 2' for every team that doesn't post here at least once I suggest!

Highlights of first week.

Stage 1: No Highlights. Giallini wins the Prologue.
Stage 2: First flat stage without MS. Matsubara the smartest in a sprint out of small peloton, wins in front of Jefferson and Chimbo. Bram strong on P4.
Stage 3: Second flat stage without MS. Jefferson revenge on Matsubara. Wielki says goodbye to GC because his team sleeps at the hill.
Stage 4: Fouquet says Merci to Lorient after 223 km of work. A few seconds between some GC riders.
Stage 5: Third flat stage without MS. Igny out of a 6 rider escape.
Stage 6: Fouquet says Merci to Lorient after 238 km of work.
Stage 7: Trevorvano Thompson! What a man! 35 years old and he takes that win up to L'Aquila. Bram one second behind. Again just a few seconds between some GC riders.
Stage 8: Fourth flat stage without MS. Jefferson , this time no chance at all for Matsubara.
Stage 9: Again ITT! Ciab with the surprise and maglia rosa.

Important Observations
  • A lot of GC contenders for a Giro. And GC still very open. Only Mielki gone.
  • 19 teams is a lot for a Giro, but if they don't escape, no escape can win. One escape win was less than expected for such a first week.
  • 7 Sprinters is a lot for a Giro, but it still needs flat power and a train to create a MS.
  • Lorient is the master of one day races, but not of GT stages yet.Or is it just form?
  • Fouquet is the master of classic stages, but he doesn't need the other 8 Vikings.
  • Jefferson is the master of hill sprint, but difficult to get ciclamino only like that.

A few more details on GC

No GC stage so far. Oh, I forgot the ITT. And Stage 4 the hill to Frascati. And Stage 3 to Orbetello. Orbetello? Really? You would not believe so, but ***** favorite Winicjusz Wielki (guciuzuza), from a TDF winning team, lost 15' on this stage after his team did not protect him well enough and the likes of Pokemonogatari forced a strong sieb. Well, guciuzuza only won TDF because Vikings and Uhlsport pulled him to victory, but still a remarkable result. So Wielki basically out! How about stage 4? Lorient overestimated himself or underestimated Fouquet (This guy may not be riding under the strongest team but his pure skill is insane) so he controlled until the last hill where Fouquet won and only very few seconds were between the different climbers and GC contenders. And then, the ITT, boring as always in RSF? Not completely. Walter Ciab (waerl) stronger than Carlo Giallini (Coroncina) in San Marino and now leads the peloton in yellow.... Ehm, rosa! Giallini, Takeuchi and Haddock follow. Those four are probably the favorites.

New favo check maybe like this:

***** Carlo Giallini (Corocina)
**** Oscar Haddock (Idéfix), Mariya Takeuchi (Pokemonogatari)

Re: Giro 22h

Ok, rest day again. Time for....

Highlights of Week 2:
Stage 10: Fifth flat stage of the Giro. Finally a MS! Finally Pistone wins! Kattel hanging on Jefferson, so Jefferson doesn't let the win to him.
Stage 11: Sixth flat stage of the Giro. Another MS? Incredible. But Pistone weak, no train, nothing. So really only Gipfeltrain and Kattel steals the win from Jefferson. What a sucker. But Jefferson keeps ciclamino!
Stage 12: Carlos Chimbo! 3rd Gipfel Giro Stage Winner in 2019! Survived the mountain on the way to Pinerolo, or put differently, brought back by his team mates. Successful blocking at the end. Very nicely executed.
Stage 13: Here are the mountains. Bram with his first stage win here. And the first for Lorient who seemed to be favorite on many stages. Also Matsubara stealing ciclamino through an IS sprint.
Stage 14: Jefferson back in ciclamino through another IS sprint. Takeuchi in rosa! (Somebody who saw the race has to tell more.)
Stage 15: Bram again!!! Lorient form definitely on week 2. But didn't know that you can set the form for the team manager as well. Hahaha.

Stats!!! Poke, we want more statistics!

True. I was really surprised that Lorient only focussed on securing stages and P2 instead of GC. Like on stage 19, he controlled 200km. 5 stages, azzurra, podium and team classement, is superbly strong, yes. But the best mountain rider could have a bit more courage to win GC :)

So Lorient with 5 stages even stronger than Gipfel with 4 stages, argh... But anyway GW to you!

Damn, true, he only made P4. Did not pay enough attention to the ITT... So in fact, best mountain rider in the Giro, but not on podium is tough. Yes, there was 3 ITT's, but they were not neither very long nor flat. 5 stages, but P4. Maybe next time he sacrifices a stage but attacks GC :) But maybe next time somebody else has the training luck for a 89 mountain.

I try when you are not here so you can see it :)
No 15 opportunities in the Giro to move for Bram. I try two times (stage 14 nd 16) but it won't work (one time because of guci' tempo)

You speak about stage 19. Explain me what can I do in this stage it's all flat with one hill
Maybe you want to said stage 20 ? Hill not hard +a lot of flat till the last hill = impossible to try a move. In all case you can be sure that, if I try to go in front with a rider to help Bram later, poke ride in the peloton to come back.
In all case for me it was clear at this moment that I can't win Giro so better to try to win these 2 stages and be in front of you in stage wins :P

So the real problem is a lot of passiv teams which have nothing to win by waiting the end of stage but try nothing.
One team against the favo > favo win if he won't do a mistake. Poke won't do mistake he wins.
After P2 - P3 - P4 or P10 it's the same.

Well now we will see if the next GT is different. ;)

And for finish, it was really funny to ride against you Gipfel' because you try some interesting move in medium moutain stages. :)
