Re: Giro 2017 Afternoon (the only real Giro)

Post by team fl » Mon May 08, 2017 9:56 am

So the "first week" is over, only three stages with three different stage winners from three different teams: Patrich Vetsch (Rasmussen), Pavel Sitko (Team FL) and Jesper Vintenberg (Lula cycling team). Team FL is very happy that Sitko could win the second stage, so "winning a stage" during this years Giro is from the bucket list. And Team FL is also happy that Lula cycling team seems to be commited for buch sprints when he's online during stages where a bunch sprint is possible. Hence, Team FL happily takes Sitkos second place and with it the Ciclamino from Vetsch.

In the GC, not much happened. One of the succesful stage 1 escapees, Dani Karanka from Atletico Lula, is wearing the Maglia Rosa (!), and his team was committed on stage 3 for him to wear it after the first rest day too. Regarding the other classements, it's nice to see that the nominally best climber, Zipoli from Big Donkey is wearing the mountain jersey. As for the GC, also for the Yyuth classements nothing really important has happened yet. Due to time bonifications during stage 3, it's Ali Boukamoun from Hessen Cycling wearing that jersey for the moment.

So let's make some lists at the first rest day:

Stage wins:

1 - Pavel Sitko (Team FL)
1 - Patrick Vetsch (Rasmussen)
1 - Jesper Vintenberg (Lula cycling team

Stage wins by team:

1- Lula cycling team
1- Rasmussen
1- Team FL

GC:

01. 00:00 Dani Karanka (Atletico Lula)
02. 00:31 Pavel Sitko (Team FL)
03. 00:37 Alvaro Tejera (Atletico Lula)

PC:

01. 077 Pavel Sitko (Team FL)
02. 064 John Quinn (Calimero)
03. 060 Patrick Vetsch (Rasmussen)

MC:

01. 010 Evaristo Zipoli (Big Donkey)
02. 006 Lucas Duliano (Atletico Lula)
03. 005 Jörg Strauss (Rassmussen), Edward Cochric (Atletico Lula), JonathanManu Bennett (Rockstar Inc)

YC:

01. 00:43 Ali Boukamoun (Hessen Cycling)
02. 00:45 Cheb Khaled (Calimero)
03. 00:47 Davide Apollonio (Mercatone-uno)

TC:

01. 00:00 Rasmussen
02. 00:00 Rockstar Inc
03. 00:00 Atletico Lula

2' gained on Flynn today, a lot, but he was unlucky to be off in the decisive moment. Or just go off.
Sieb by Zipoli at km 170. Trekken showed on, but well, then went off, disturbed at work he said when he came back on. So while usually he would have lost under a minute with this tactic (but not sure how much exactly) he lost 2' now.

But IMO he's still the favorite:
Seen form Zipoli, since I'm a brilliant egomaniac:

Flynn: Should win 6'30" in the TT. So still 4'30 ahead. Or 4', something around there.
Brandao will win roughly 3'30" on Zipoli in the TT. So he's 3'10" ahead.
Malori will win a bit more, but let's keep it simple and say he's 3'10 ahead too.
Montgomery will win close to 3 minutes, he's 2'10, 2'20" ahead.

Getting 4' or 4'30" back from Flynn is doable. (But not that easy either I think) The problem is that I need to get rid of the 3 others too. And ok, the other climbers as well, but a bit less worried about them for the moment.
Flynn of course is only 1' or so ahead of Brandao and Malori, they are much more dangerous than Zipoli right now. So ok, depends a lot on Zipoli, Uppdal and the Donkey actually.

Another fun thing: Let's look at the escape KMs by team according to Rasmussen's numbers:

1. 1547 - Rasmussen
2. 0741 - Atletico Lula
3. 0547 - Calimero
4. 0448 - Big Donkey
5. 0387 - Rockstar Inc
6. 0241 - Hessen Cycling
7. 0022 - Team FL

Only team not listed so far are Mercatone-uno and Lula Team cycling, although I think you missed some riders from yesterday.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.

Which riders? If you're in the chasing group it's not counting.

Km: 183, Steigung: 1
Sergey Privalvov (Atletico Lula) attackiert
Jerome Fothen (Atletico Lula) attackiert
Kike Rodruigez (Lula cycling team) geht mit
Jerome Pave (Lula cycling team) geht mit

Out of the main group with the GC favourites. But they haven't been in the front group, if you mean that.

Flynn trained Time Trial and has now 70. All other GC riders without a training it seems but not too sure.

That makes Flynn the big winner from yesterday with 25 seconds won and a good training. He still lost too much time due to the mistake on the way to the Etna but his chances rising with that stage yesterday. Malori also won some seconds and maybe from the skills he should considered as a main favorite but with Mercatone always being off and playing that passive he will lose time at some point, although he can benefit the most from a Donkey sieb with Uppdal. But of course the GC will stay close and interesting at least until the Time Trial. After that we should know a bit more.

Nice statistic. Brillant stuff from the Rasmussens...every day in the break. Not too successful until now but at least one stage win resultet from the 1500 kms at the front.

GC standings...
Malori yellow, everybody wants rosa.
TT was... bah, Flynn was never the big favorite we claimed. ONly realized on the day of the TT he had 42 or 43 reg with the Bagno di Romagna stage coming the next day was to be expected that he wasn't going to risk too much. 44" to Malori. Should have been close to 2' on paper ignoring the next stage and his reg. Which Donks somehow managed to do at the start. I think he probably could have spent a bit more, but not that much. IN the last TT he should win 1'20" or so to Malori, but here much more would have been a huge risk.
Loser of the TT though probably Montgomery. Looked like he started way to fast, then slowed down, lost more than he should to Malori (won less than expected to Zipoli too). And still was very unfit the next day it seems. But ok, it's a few seconds that he lost in the TT, not minutes.

Bagno di Romagna then as could be expected turned out to be nothing in terms of GC. OK, the FL gained time, otherwise nothing. Didn't develop the way it was expected, somewhat chaotic at times. Torres goes for red (the funny thing is that of course his manager is usually one of the guys that most whines about "those red chasers that destroy the race, as with most retarded red chasers (should be blue) he didn't destroy the race, but influenced it a lot. (Which isn't a bad thing). Maybe asshole learns to complain less in the future, after doing what he loooooves to complain about nonstop? Doubt it, hypocrites are hypocrites, assholes assholes etc etc. (Now we'll have Liquigas showing up and whining that I insult him, somebody tell him I wasn't talking about him please)Anyway, Torres goes, Malori joins, leader ahead, behind all a bit lost, Donks tempos, RAsmussen joins, then sieb, back ahead, then Donks with his mistake, attacks with the classics, just leave them behind.... then some riding, then Donks did the right thing and waited. The one who had the most to gain, Rasmussen, did his mistake and refused to join, so wait for everybody, that's Maloris helpers and the offline Calimeros and the sitted-by-classless-scum FLs. Those FLs then went, won, behind some attempts that turned out to be for nothing, all together. Except Uppdal.

GC favorites now
Malori
Montgomery
Brandao
Flynn
Malori ahead, but he often doesn't work when he should, misses km. etc. So not a clear favorite, and the team doubtful too. Montgomery is almost always on, has a good team. So he's almost at the same level. Brandao offline mostly. Flynn too often offline too. So... Malori or Montgomery I think. Zipoli... we'll see, not out of it, but we'll see from day to day if it's worth trying.

Many things are obvious. One of them is that you are bored. Get a girlfriend!
