Giro 2015 Afternoon 15h

Post by team fl » Fri Apr 24, 2015 10:36 am

It's Giro time! (soon!) Team FL participating, yay, so sitter please pop up, esp. for the weekends ;).

Possible line-up will be the following:

x1 Paul Betancourt - I guess the GC captain, man for the mountains, winner of the women's hearts
x2 Elvis Bogdanic - Man on a mission as soon as there is some hilly part, Fran's bro No. 1
x3 Martin Hrast - Are there Rest days at the Giro? Guess how Mr. (H)rast thinks about them. Anyway, why are not all FL riders called Martin Hrast?!
x4 Eric Liechtenstein - Are there flat stages at the Giro? Well, at least Eric heard of them and is excited.
x5 Royston Lightning - No Pavé at the Giro? Who cares anyway, things Royston
x6 Fran Peterlin - Happy to have Elvis on board, Franz Peter of the people
x7 Robertlandy Simon - Best Cuban export since Rum and Cigars, hope he forgets about the latter two in Italy
x8 Carlos Tejeda - Carlito will be finito after the Giro, hopefully happy too
x9 Barton Zwiebach - No. 9 of the team, what to say, seems to be motivated still.

possible substitutes:

- Valentin Bratoev for Martin Hrast

Goals: lose tons of money, have a nice time, win something, keep Hugo busy for 3 weeks.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.

Donkey here too, goal is to win of course.

The 12 pre selected riders:
Climbers:
Vinicius Dourado, Taxiarchis Stratigopoulou. Both at the start, Vinicius the leader obviously.

Classics:
Urs Tobler, Cestmir Matuska, Manuel Vargas, Zygmunt Grabkowski. Most likely only 3 of the 4, well 99% sure. Possibly 2. Urs for the TTT, Manuel for the reg, Cestmir just like that, Zygmunt for the TTT. yeah, looks like Cestmir will be the odd man out.

Lungs:
Lakhdar Gaouaoui, Selwyn Cayetano. Lakhdar unlikely, so Selwyn looks good. Even if he isn't a 60-80 at all right now.... but should keep training mountain and be at Lakhdars disappointing level pretty soon. And Zygmunt can count as something like a 60-80 until he becomes a classic.

Flat stars:
Teppei Umesao, Oton Generalic, Jiri Topal, Cesare Squarcialupi. Teppei for reg and TTT and flat, Oton for TTT and sprint, Jiri for sprint, Cesare for being Italian and TTT.

As of today Matuska and Gaouaoui with the least chances to start, but that still leaves us with 10 stars for 9 places.

Luques maybe here, maybe a bit more late. Playing Giro for sure anyway, not too many goals, I am ok with having a good time.

Looks like i also try to ride Giro at 15h

Team around Runholt, Rexon, Princip, Broz, Cortez , Nykäken

Goal should be to win some classic stages and try to fight for green....
GK wise i dont see any possiblitys because of the low reg from the leaders so we look from stage to stage

Hello!

Well, I am thinking to join Giro at 15H with the following lineup...:

1.Ulises Veracruz - with some chances for GK podium
2.Massimo Croce - riding his 1st Big Tour

3.Umberto Galimberto -colombian assasin for classic stages
4.MIrko Tedesco - for classic stages
5.Darko Tomic - serbian nightmare for classic stages

6.Domenico Perin - best rider in escapes :)), you all have seen few escapes not killed by this man.
7.Dejan Markovic - serbian killer

8-9. I have to choose 2 of the following 4 : Santiago Quintero, Alessandro Demarco, Walter Dries, Gianpaolo Peluso

....650 K team...this may force me take a decision reg. 8th and 9th riders.

Arrivederci!

Usually I'd say I'd go for the morning, but this actually looks really interesting. As afternoon is also a good time for Team Alkworld (except on that long weekend in Germany) we may just burn our money here. Pretty likely money burners would be:
- Diego Velazquez - the guy with more reg than Luigi Mastrangelo ever had
- Moses Maimonides - chased more groups than the whole team Liquigas-CND ever did
- Guadalupe Victoria - more flat than Fran Peterlin ever had
- Newton Mendonca - at least as Brazilian as Vinicius Dourado
- Juscelino Kubitschek - not the rider with the best reg in the team
- Baden Powell - sprints even better than Babacar Touré

More candidates could be
- Oscar Wilde - winner at Terminillo
- Eduardo Falu - pavé hero, winner at Denain (where is that anyway?)
- Francisco Goya - Trentino winner 2014
- JoseMaria Morelos - Amstel winner
- Juan Gris - winner of the Stockholm Criterium
- Sergio Mendes - surprisingly winner of barely anything
- Juan Rulfo - even more surprisingly winner of barely anything
- James Joyce - future winner of a Giro stage?

I'll just stop here before naming the rest of the team. This will apparently be a tough choice this year.

We're getting closer to the final line-up. Almost safely in are the following guys:
- Moses Maimonides - chased more groups than the whole team Liquigas-CND ever did
- Guadalupe Victoria - more flat than Fran Peterlin ever had
- Newton Mendonca - at least as Brazilian as Vinicius Dourado
- Juscelino Kubitschek - not the rider with the best reg in the team
- Baden Powell - sprints even better than Babacar Touré

Most likely other candidates:
- Francisco Goya or Diego Velazquez - decision after next training
- "El Greco" - young climber, strong downhill rider
- Sergio Mendes or Vinicius deMoraes - good allrounder vs youngster with good downhill skills
- Manuelcha Prado or Vinicius deMoraes - TTT engine or more useful skills

Still not fully ruled out are:
- Oscar Wilde - another good training would make it harder to ignore him
- Juan Rulfo - a money maker in the sprints

Your supposition is totally wrong.

I have decided to win at least a stage and to be at least 3rd in GK.

So.... 5 more days to go until the start. Let's have a short look on the teams who will (most likely) participate, inkl. their main riders:

Alkworld: Maimonides, Goya, Theotokopoulos, Victora
- Although Maimonides is a weapon, it's more the whole team that is frightening. Lots of skill needed for this Giro edition, lots of reg. The question only is if he goes mainly for stage wins or tries to ride for Maimonides in the GC. I guess it will be both. Wilde might be an alternative for not so hard hilly stage, but he's getting old, so hard to tell if he will attend or not.

Big Donkey: Dourado, Stratigopoulou (Topal)
- The only team with more than 9 riders at the start. Why? Because he can. And because he has no clue which line-up to send to Italy. Besides that, it's mainly one Name: Vinicius Dourado. The Brasilian climber will of course try to win the Giro, also with the help of the second climber in the team, Stratigopoulou. But as the team only consists of leaders, it's difficult to say what will happen with the Donkeys during the three weeks. Maybe even Topal will be there for the flat stages.

Liquigas-CND: Veracruz
- Maybe the best rider on paper with the only manager not willing to ride for him. Or is he? Who knows. But at least he will be an interesting factor in the race. Besides that, it seems he likes killers. Although I wonder how that job is done on a bike. But I am not eager to find out.

rexona: Runholt, Rexon, Broz, Nykäken
- A very strong team for all the hilly stages with sprint power too. Rungholt is not the best climber, but for sure a strong helper for rexon, who will battle a lot against Maimonides and maybe Peterlin, I guess. For not so heavy stages, Nykäken is the asset to chose. All out for stage wins and green, it seems. Likes killers too. Brrr...

r Taka est nul: Martin, Takasu, DeMartini
- Has to only Huber in this list, thus brings another nice perspective in the GC fight. With Takasu and DeMartini, also two stage hunters are in the line-up. Will suffer a bit in pure flat and hard mountain stage, but has the riders to go in an early group.

Team FL: Betancourt, Peterlin, Lichtenstein
- Team FL is Franz Peter at the moment. Not because of the spring classics, but because of the Tour de Romandie. Of course, the Giro profiles will give him good opportunities to challenge Maimonides and Rexon. Question is though, if Betancourt will try something in the GC or is a pure helper. Anyway, Team FL has something for every profile which might prove not to be enough for a specific one...

I am sure some more teams that are interesing will join the Afternoon Giro; maybe DAD (Hund!), or Gaurain? But that's it so far.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.

Donkey still thinking... hard work to think.

Gaouaoui out, Matuska almost... still leaves 10 riders for 9 places

Thought only about Matuska vs Tobler, Tobler vs Vargas, Vargas vs Cayetano, Cayetano vs Topal, Squarcialupi vs all of them so far, but right now kind of like the newest idea, let Oton at home.
Teppei is good in flat too, better in the mountain, a bit more reg, better in TT... no sprint, though. And less downhill. But if Topal joins, letting him at home somehow seems the most logic choice after all. Ok, Cesare, but he's Italian. And has 56 reg, good man for the Gruppetto!
