Who will ride for the grand slam ?

Post by olmania » Sun Apr 24, 2011 1:45 pm

Hi folks !

This year, the profiles of the 3 GT's are really similar, almost clones !
Always the same profiles stages, with TTT, flat week (no gk interest), 3 hard HC stages with only summit arrival, and again HC with summit arrivals the last week; and 40kms of ITT to conclude (exept for the Vuelta, this during the stage 10). The difficulty looks more or less similar, even if the Giro have longer stages and some dirty roads ! That's why I think, a strong leader helped by an other climber and a good team around him (with reg, of course) can try to play for the grand slam and play for the victory in the 3 GT's !
85MO with 70 ITT looks good, or 88MO with 56+ITT ... anyway, a good manager with a strong team can aim to win everything this year because the GT's are almost the same and the scenarios will be parralel. But I hope the difficulty of the groups and the opponents will offer us a great show, and not an easy domination for those who aspire to win everything !

Teams (activ, with leaders with points) where I've already found potential leader for that:

Equipe Risque (Nathan Bailly)
BMG (Bamba Anderson)
bergwerk (Dodo Erdemann: maybe a bit old for the Vuelta?)
the owl (Ange Girard)
L RSV (Untaani Compoaré)
Gismo (Liu Xong: a bit weak in ITT perhaps?)

That's only a start of list, because we all know that during the GT's everything is possible, and this is not easy to control everything for 3 weeks !
But, I guess this year, something big is possible for a good manager with a lot of ambition and a great leader !

I hope nobody, who doesn't ride in the afternoon, since the Vuelta should only be offered in the afternoon.

Pambele

Nobody expected him in May I think. At least not the ape, he didn't even knew him then. Linares was the obvious candidate.
Now the Andes too? After all his achievement was completely ignored in the South American press!

Congrats from FL too!

Liechtensteiner Press titled Pambele already as the stage rider of the year 2011, although Hannes Büchl still thinks it should be him every year.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.
