Re: Giro 2020 - 22h
Stage 9 saw a classy escape with Pauwel Kwak getting his first ever win in a 4rider sprint, while the Peloton just didn't chase fast enough in the first part of the stage. 34" were missing in the end.
With 4 stagewins we are of course quite happy. GC Situation is not ideal, as Wordsworth lost already a lot of time in the mountain finishes, when he just got siebed earlier than expected. So it is Hitoshi Matsuyama still 40" in front of Thomas Fontaine, but it would be a major surprise if he could defend this until Milano. Debreuil with a very good first week, while Fontaine and deLuca were mostly watching each other.
Chris vanDurpel with a confident lead in the points classement, I don't think someone really has chances there to overtake him, if there will be another MS.
Mountain Jersey Looks good for the ***/* Sami. 29pts ahead of Hitoshi, a few more points to get especially at the Cesenatico stage. But unlike the points classement, here really a lot is still possible.
Youth Jersey: It was Debreuil vs. Javier Torres, it still is, but huge Advantage for Debreuil.
Team classement: CC in front, but will be decided in the last week.
Sneak Preview for week 2:
Tough week for Hitoshi and CC. Probably can keep him in rosa for a few more days, would be nice, but he is already preparing for week 3 and a big showdown.
1 MS seems very likely, another one possible at stage 13. Then the 33km TT and the first hard mountain stage right before the next restday. The classic stages are very open, it really depends who is riding there for their chances in a sprint finish.

Re: Giro 2020 - 22h
So the stage is set for the upcoming mountain stages.
Fontaine needs to win about 4 minutes to Nguyen before the last TT & maybe 2,5 minutes to Javier Torres. Should be possible.
deLuca 54 seconds behind Fontaine. Not easy considering the strong team of Fontaine & my weak team.
GC situation before Piancavallo stage:
David Nguyen -1:48
Javier Torres -1:14
Thomas Fontaine
Patrice Debreuil + 0:26
Hitoshi Matsuyama +0:53
Marco deLuca + 0:54
Marjan Lenarcic + 1:32
Paul Nardi + 1:54

Re: Giro 2020 - 22h
GC situation on second rest day:
David Nguyen -0:43
Thomas Fontaine
Javier Torres +0:11
Patrice Debreuil + 0:53
Marco deLuca + 1:09
Marjan Lenarcic + 1:42
Hitoshi Matsuyama +1:58
Paul Nardi + 2:21
GC is a fight between Lorient and Mikado now. Lorient will need another 3 minutes or so on the 3 remaining mountain stages. It is definitely possible even if he wouldn't see it yesterday The rest of the climber's is out. de Luca again not good enough to follow Fontaine. He can be happy now if he gets on the podium somehow. Matsuyama (CC all together) with a very bad day yesterday.

Re: Giro 2020 - 22h
Well we will see . Said it's over for others climbers mean that's it's over for me too. Can't win it in a "normal" race. So possibility to come back for others climbers (deLuca especially) in an hard race too.
So maybe some possibility for GC for Fontaine but need to ride very hard and hope it's reay a fight Lorient against Mikado.
Moutain classement: Easy win for Sami Vikkolainen
Points Classement :A fight between Fontaine and VanDurpel we can think. If no massive sprint win by VanDurpel on stage 19 it will be for Fontaine. Otherwise it will be more open.
Young classement : Fight between Debreuil and Torres. If the race is hard it can be interesting for Debreuil.
Team classement : Advantage for CircleCycle. If an escap go in one stage it can change all.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This second week was better for my team with 3 wins and a good replacement in GC and points classement

Re: Giro 2020 - 22h
Everybody already so tired and waiting for the finish of this Giro? We have 2 mountain stages + the TT left and still loads of riders with chances to end up in the Top 3.
Fontaine took over the GC lead yesterday while Marco won the stage on top of Madonna di Campiglio.
David Nguyen without that much help yesterday lost 1:29 to Fontaine and is now behind the climbers with arguably the 2 most difficult stages still to come.
I will now work on my plan how to gain over a minute against two 88 climbers. Hope to be ready by 22h today
GC situation before Stelvio stage:
Thomas Fontaine
Hamish MacDonald +0:21
Patrice Debreuil + 0:55
Marco deLuca + 0:57
David Nguyen +1:15
Hitoshi Matsuyama +1:23
Marjan Lenarcic + 1:34
Javier Torres +2:04

Re: Giro 2020 - 22h
Thanks to the teams being part of Giro 22h - especially to a lot of teams which have been online almost every day.
It was a Giro with ups and downs. But in general it was a lot of fun.

Re: Giro 2020 - 22h
Yep. For me it was also a lot of fun this Giro, especially third week. Thanks to all participating.
At the end it was even my first podium in a important Tour, after riding the first tour since 8 years or so. But I now consider to also ride the TdF, because it seems to be fun.
Cheers, Hope to see some of you at Dauphine today. Everybody else hopefully soon in another race somewhere in RSF-World.
