Wang who sent the team to Roubaix yesterday plus Duculescu and Grillboy who went to train on the Velodrome and then went to Paris instead of Compiègne...

But bad race by Roby... that simple. Slept at the first tough sieb, should have put in fighting for Qian and T. Guggisberg. Saw it too late... not even the excuse of the slow connection there, it was VERY slow, but there it was me that was slow.. then only 3 in front, instead of 5. Big mistake. Then at first Nedelcu helps Ducu. In case Conia goes crazy and attacks... later realized that a) he seemed to have a normal day b) even on a crazy day an attack would be just too idiotic for him. So then a bit Grilboy, until they had almost the same, then back and forth. Thought that might be enough, since I Conia didn't have that many helpers either, had to keep fit 3... Not enough, should have gone only for Grillboy, or 75% 25%. Don't think Grillboy would actually have won, too known, there is always somebody on his wheel. Which increases the chances that Muchacho is there too... But he probably could have finished in the top 5... but more importantly just a better race, was really bad to let him get dropped, no real excuse for that. Pure stupidity. And his chances to win probably 5x those of Duculescu... 2,5% vs 0,5% Probably the worst monument I ever rode, not managing to bring Grillboy in the first group is just bad. Horrible. He would have increased Ducus chances as well... then Grillboy just follows Muchacho and that's it.. and Ducu somebody like Aix... if others follow Grillboy too, Muchacho on one of them... but no... really really really really really idiotic Roby today. REally bad. Better to end up 25th and ride ok, than what I did today. Well, not I did... Wang and Ares gave the orders, I trusted them and they disappointed me once again. Next week Roland will take command of the squad.. Ares and Wang will wash bicycles and stuff. Or no, can't trust them with the bikes, they can clean the hotel rooms.

The race. It's a completely different race from it used to be. Carrefour de l'arbre not decisive as much as before. Now it's only a sieb-place, the decisions happen's after, sprint of a fairly big group, or the right attack.. Normal, we are more experienced, we all know that it's too long after the carrefour to reach the goal alone, an attack costs 100 energy, it's not really an option for anybody, since in most races somebody else will go in and "cover" an attack, so keeping the time loss down. Ok, not in our race, because the was no need for Conia to do that, had he attacked it would have been funny... So Carrefour de l'arbre less decisive, maybe that will make the race more aggressive early in future years. Would be nice.

But still liked our race, not the result, but the race. Franconia with a big sieb at 129 already, good. I would have done it earlier even, since he couldn't except anybody to ride with him really... he did it at 129, Roby who fucked up already with only 3 in front.. .bah. So groups in the back that try to come back, managed a few times, Roby in tempo too, mostly with Lizard, Aix and lesossies. Dropped again, chase again, etc. Then Carrefour, the expected sieb, not good results for the over optimistic Roby... Conia with 3 riders, but a fit leader has more energy, atttacks possible, the second one splits the group in 2, 7 in front, 7 in the back, stupid Ducu in the back of course... Then no more attacks... ok... since the chances that everybody was following everybody was fairly big anyway. Sprint, logic and deserved Franconia win.

Next, flèche Wallone, new course... but actually even with the old one might have developped from the most boring RSF classic (06-08) to an interesting one (09) to the best. Reason? Unlike in all other classics if it comes down to the last 15 Km not everybody can hope to win, then there are a few very clear favorites.
-MSR? Most people can wait til the end. Chances there. Capo Berta, Cipressa, Poggio.
-E3? See Flanders.
-Gent? See Flanders.
-Flanders? In a sprint many many, basically everybody has a chance. IF, there is no really strong sprinter around, then 55+ can win. Maybe even less. No need to attack as well, load your support riders so they can later load your leaders longer and wait. Cover potential attacks in the Muur, then again in the bosberg and get that huge group rolling. Those without sprint, can still hope to get away in an attack. But 55 can be enough to win.. most don't even need to try to attack there. -PR? Same thing. Carrefour de l'arbre, attack in most cases senseless, somebody will cover it, many will come back if there is an attack, everybody with 55+ sprint can win, or if there are strong sprinters, everybody with 86 flat can hope to get away.
- Schelde? Sprint (and rightly so) or late attack. Otherwise the same as usual. Loading, Loading.
- Amstel? 6-2, most riders will stay on at 6%, since they are fully loaded, then everybody with some sprint can win, and everybody with a good mountain-flat combination can attack.Everybody has chances, nobody needs to try early. So another waiting race.
- LBL? Harder, here you need mountain... with 72 not enough (I hope...) the San Nicolas will decide who has a chance and who not. But many teams no from the start that they can't wait for the Saint Nicolas, max mountain classic 73? Probably not enough. Climber? Unlikely too, not impossible, but anyway, here the number of teams that cna win in the final are restricted, risks being a more interesting, offensive, open race.

The same but even more so counts for the Flèche. If it comes down to the last 10 Km it's the riders with the highest mountain skill, in a 20 team race, that's not going to be 20 teams that can wait, like it is in all those other races. It will be 5 or so, maximum. That's why I suspect that the Flèche 2010 even without the course change might have been the most interesting RSF classic of the sprint. With the course change too, actually not really sure it got harder as everybody seems to say... But of course the problem could be that many think that they have no chance anyway and don't even start... going to Trentino instead... bah.. will see.

Anyway.. Roby will start, 15h, hopes to have a better connection than today at 15h.... was horrible today.. now better and before that time better too. If not I just might send postcards with the commands to Buhmann from now on...

But, as I suspected, clearly, by FAR the most exciting classic of the season. Not that I saw much (don't think it changed anything though) but as soon as not everybody has a chance if it comes down to the last 15 km the race explodes. Great race by Aywaille and iBan, early sieb, that surprised me, thought it would start later, never came back, then attacks in the right places (unfortunately, and those one at least I was afraid they would come, saw the danger), nothing to do without Mandelbrot and his helpers.. Got second in the end, which is more than the team really deserved, too weak as I was afraid it could be. Needed Mandelbrot and his helpers to have a chance.. then ok, Aix almost got me the win... by making tempo, Umberto not sprinting from 500 or me sprinting from 500 might have been enough to get it, but right now I have no problem finishing second, or third would have been good too, 5th.. no problem.. right now I probably wouldn't enjoy it if I had won, because I was clearly beaten, nothing I could do.. don't think rode a bad race.. maybe Berlogea too early, maybe try to save him over the Mur.. to have Guggisberg in the end.. or talk with Libby, ask her to ride with Behle first, keep Thomas for the end.. but ok, thought Behle was stronger, he was really weak actually. So, almost happier to have lost right now... will change for sure, in 3 days I wouldn't have cared about how anymore Just too bad that Aywaille, who rode a GREAT race can't accept any even slight criticism. You could have told Superwinner who announced that he would go off to stop making tempo if you ask Libby to make tempo.. and off he goes... bla bla bla. Ok, got it, can't say anything to you and you feel you are the victim, won't mention it again. Great race. Deserved winner (iBan would have deserved it too, both a really really great race)
