Change in the Ape line up.

Since Berlogea retired yesterday, we got a special permit from the central in Herne to add another rider to the list of replacement riders, we used that option.
And since Saburo Mori has a stomach bug, or maybe malaria, we're not sure and don't care that replacement will now get his nr 4 jersey and start in Mori's place. The alphabet still counts of course, as usual for late replacements the number of the other guys are not changed. Too bad about Mori, now we won't have any reg left. Maybe he recovers and somebody else gets some sickness?

Did the Ape a mistake with the alphabet or did I miss to read something?

You missed something. I hope

Alighieri came in at the last minute for Mori. So he just gets Moris number. See Saxo, Porte in for Larsson. So he's out of the alphabet. See BMC, the 2 Bs for Ballan and Santambrogio, one at Ballans place, one where the s should be.

Hope I made no real mistake....

What do you guys think about the gaps after this TTT, is it bigger or smaller as expected. How much time can a climber reasonably win back on another ?
Hmm ok, with 20" for every daywinner, a lot of things are possible !

Roughly as expected?

Ok, we didn't have time to analyze the TTT field exactly before the start, but generally no real surprises.

Losers:

-FL: Seems to have been there, not sure why he lost that much...
-BW missed the first Km, would have lost 40-50" anyway though I think.
-Wizard: Would have expected him a bit higher up too. Missed give all at the pavé km.. ok. Still, expected him around Mathe too.

But for the GC, not much is done.

The 88 climbers:

Girard 0: But he has the weakest team of the 88. Risks being fairly isolated fairly soon, and will lose time in the TT at least to Erdemann. Weakest pavé doesn't help either.
Agger 46": Strong team, good 85 helper, strongest of the 3 88 in pavé. But only 53,3, but could be, should be enough to gain some time on the others there. Maybe.
Erdemann 1'16" Even stronger team in the top, 50,9 pavé only, there in trouble too. Best TT guy of the 3.

Basically those 3 are still at the same level roughly. TT should without calculating it right now put Erdemann close to Girard, strade Bianche should put Agger roughly at that level too.. The bonifications will obviously be very important, 48-52-51 sprint for the 3, so all is possible there.

87: Mastrangelo, loser of the day at 1'28". A bit more pavé, should at least be with Agger there... and he too is in the fight for bonifications. His problem the reg though, will make it hard for him, completely isolated as he is.

Normally those 3 should share the majority of the bonifications between them, but will see. Form etc, if one realizes the other one has better form there infighting in the 88 faction could start. Or if one or 2 prefer not to risk losing the boni to the direct opponents, that's a chance for early groups maybe.

86: Watson, will help Erdemann, let's ignore him

85: A whole bunch, lets add the 84 too, the bunch becomes bigger. All of them have chances too, depends on how the race goes..

Les singes: 1) Strade Bianche, don't really know how it will play out in the end, but with Fahrnys and Urganovs pavé... I have the chance to win time there. Too much. Yes, there will be differences in reality too, depending on the weather a bit maybe, might be similar to the differences here. The problem is that in reality the differences on stages like Zoncolan or Finestre can be x times larger, here it will be in seconds, as usual. Unless I have the idea that Urganov maybe can follow the 88... Then 84 with reg, 85 without, 2 chances, one can be offensive, the other not really. Depends a lot on how the race goes between the top climbers. A disadvantage might be starting "strong"

Los Lizardos: 85+84, more TT, 61 for the 84. He will suffer the strade Bianche, but then he has the 2 cards with reg. Eickendreyer-Stockdale, both 58. Yes, Demuth and BW can block and close everything and live of the bonifications for a while.. like everybody else in the 85- group it will depend a lot on how they play it out in front. The reg still can be an advantage, the problem at RSF though is the reg over 45 has to be used actively, that there the advantage really has to be searched.. but can be blocked very easily with a reg helper. But if he finds the right moments, and as I said, what do the 3 88 do?, he can have his chances too. Especially since he starts from the "back".

Mathematiker: 85+85, Schrödinger, flat, pavé, reg. Not much TT, and Rondeau, no reg, logical leader seems Schrödinger, especially with the strade Bianche. Rondeau though would be a better leader than support rider. The same that counts for the singes and lizard counts for him... what will the 88 do? He's not out from the start either.

Corvia, Lecce: Only behind Girard, he will survive the strade bianche ok. Then his team isn't really there.. he will want to cooperate with Wizard/Mathe/Singe, if they manage an escape or so. more of a 'parasite' Giro for him, waiting for the right moment, defending the small advantage he has over others to then use a chance to extend that advantage over the 88. Possible.

Sveringson, Psycho the same basically. A bit less experience, less pavé, a bit more TT. Not chanceless from the start.

Rospi, Schwalbe, JJ will have no chance, don't know them, they lack experience, sorry.. plus lost already lots of time.

Nipp, 82 but 60 TT, will suffer the pavé, but should be in the Demuth group at least. And then see Corvia+Sveringson, and how the race develops. With 82 tempo won't drop him that fast. AND, here comes what wasn't mentioned so far, the training. He's 23, so in 2 weeks he could be an 84, could be an 82 too. His chances for the win seem minimal, but depending on how it goes he has some small chances too.

The training argument of course counts for others too:

Corvia 25
Sveringson 24
Fahrny 24
Nipp 23
Stockdale 25
Eickendreyer 25

Those of course have bigger chances to train, and 1 or even 2 trainings could turn out to be very important. Agger and ERdemann both 32, probably 1% mountain, Girard 28 a bit more.

So the short answer to the question is:

Yes, still all open, the 3 88 still roughly at the same level, the ones behind have to wait for/create the opportunity anyway, doesn't really matter that much if 10" more or less where lost today.
