Realistic weather

Post by Buhmann » Tue Jan 10, 2012 12:06 am

A new element for the real cycling freaks: Realistic weather!Starting from now, the weather of all races depend on the weather report for the relevant day, which was made in the night before. That means, that the strength of the wind, the temperature and of course the weather itself is similar to the reality. For the first version the weather of the capital of the country where the race is, is deciding. Currently the climate which is shown at the tour overview popup does not decided how the weather will be. It is only important if it is a race at the coast (oceanic), so that the wind will be stronger for that race, because in reality, it will be stronger than in the capital, too.

Great !

And ... Is it possible to imagine this more realistic again for few races ? The weather in Roma in May is not the same than the weather in the Alps during the King's stage of the Giro :)

Should we try it for monuments and main tours in 2012, local weather ?

ps: just wondering which website you use for the weather ? wunderground ?

ps2 : is the weather can possibly change during the race (as usual) ?

I think when monuments and gts start we won´t only have a capital weather, but not sure. And temperature is still depending on the attitude of course.

leso implemted this.

Yes, but it is random. We have only weather for the whole day. Maybe "Partly sunny". So random decideds the weather for each km.

Yes

Yes

There are different ones on the web, I used most the google one but I´ll try other too !
This little toy will maybe be incorporated in the (new) raceeditor to calculate and view the weather and geocoords:
http://www.radsportfreaks.com/radsport/wetterhilfe.php

Yes, in this first step randomly adapted from the country start weather.
In a second step, it will be randomly adapted from the city start weather
and maybe in a last step adapted from the real or previewed weather at the geocoordinates of the race point.

How does altitude work?

Like if the reference weather is Sana: sunny, 24 degrees right now, today max 27 minimum 6, sunny. Altitude 2250 meters.
Then we get random 22 let's say.
Is that then 22 at sea level and colder in Sana (forgot the way to calculate it)or 22 in Sana ingame?

Okay, Sanaa is 0 meters for us at the moment. Silly. But not so easy to solve. Maybe i should drawing down this 2250 for the internal calculation.

What about countries with mayor differences in their climate. Namly those like Argentina, Chile, China, USA, Canada, India, Bolivia, Peru, and so on, which have huge differences within themselves (example chile, from driest desert of the world in the north to the very very wet Patagonian mountains in the south). Those are badly displayed by taking the weather of the capital, much better by the previous choosable climate zones. So unless you take more accurate data than only the capital, I propose to let the designer the possibility to still choose the climate by himself and not to take the new feature.

Why? I take the example of Chile again, desert climate for Arica fits a lot better than that climate of Santiago de Chile which is quite similar to middle europe.
