Fascinating.
How will you name your next rider? Let me guess, Martin Hrast?

Pah, according to the game's rider naming rules, I can't... So I also had to chance ond Martin into Eric... pfff...

Valentin for Janis, Lars with his first win

With Lars Hirschfeld, Team FL has another race winner in its roster. Speaking of roser, Janis Smedins leaves Team FL while Valentin Bratoev joins the crew.

Lots of things are going on for Team FL at the moment: Wallonie youth classement win for Peterlin at the end of July, first race win for Lars Hirschfeld, Arunas Paulauskas leaving the team now followed by Janis Smedins while Martin Hrast, Eric Lichtenstein and, as the newest acquisition, Valentin Bratoev from Bulgaria joining Team FL. The team management hopes that Hugo Marxer still has a good overview about all these changes. The first proof will be the Tour of Poland that is ridden currently. Stage 1 finished yesterday after more than 200km, leaving Federspiel in the second position after all. Today will be the next chance. But its more than 200 km again and pretty hot.

Bratoev for Smedins

Not affected by the current weather in Poland are Janis Smedins and Valentin Bratoev, for different reasons. Janis left the team with 35 after 123 races, 2 stage and 1 tour win and 2'441 eternal points. Although being a good rider for pavé and light hilly races, he has never been able to step out of Kari Steinsson's shadow. Anyway, for his after cycling career, he will join Arunas Paulauskas in the IT business. His career numbers:

- Image Janis Smedins, 35, Pavé Specialist

57-86-71-49-47, Pavé 84, Reg 37

Best Skills: 57-86-71-49-47, Pavé 84, Reg 37
Bought: 01.06.2013
Retired: 01.08.2014
Races: 123
Tour wins: 1
Race wins: 2
Eternal points: 2441

Maybe Valentin Bratoev can accomplish what Janis couldnt. The young Bulgarian prospect is a pavé-specialist too but slightly better in sprint. But first he has to grow up well and show what he's really worth. Valentin will also be an addition for Fran Peterlin and Ryan Kilfeather to help them succeed during hilly races. So we hope the best and for a good training. His starting skills are:

Hugo Marxer was many times in Bulgaria after Tabakov won Paris-Roubaix. He thought that would be a good idea. We will see if it is.

And of course he would have been names Martin Hrast, if only the game would allow it...

Team FL keeps on winning

After a successful July and August, Team FL keeps on being successful in September too. After winning Alberta, Team FL will now focus on one-day races for the second half of the month.

Team FL's September hero so far is Fran Peterlin. The croatian classics specialst could win the GC, the points classement as well as two stages at Alberta. But also the old team members seem to want to add their contribution as Ryan Kilfeather also won a stage at Alberta and Martti Rosenblatt won the one day race on Monday, his fifth career win.

While the new classic section around Peterlin seems to form well, Team FL is now looking for a nice fit for some steepter parts and harder races. Nevertheless, the team's focus will still be on classic races, although having with Peterlin a proven asset for stage races too.

In the meantime, the sprint section still has Federspiel, Rosenblatt and Lichtenstein to be competitive. While Rosenblatt is in the autumn of his career, Lichtenstein sill has lots of room to improve. Anyway, the team management is also looking forward to the development in this team's branch.

Team's head tactician Hugo Marxer pointed out, that Team FL will look forward to the autumn classic races and the Sachsen Pavés in October. Hopefully, those races will be as successful as the the races were in summer 2014.

Return of the Jedi!

Hugo Marxer says the force has been with him when Alain Yoda won the GP Montreal against his two compagnions after an early escape. Yoda says: Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Alain Yoda is the hero of the day, after the memories about Fran Peterlins victories at the tour of Alberta has started slowly to fade away. After Harry Hole won the GP Quebec in 2012, now Yoda won the GP Montreal and completed the Canadian classics duo. And, both races were one by nominal Team FL helpers in early escapes. Deja Vu, Beyonce would say.

While the Amercan singer is also crazy in love, Alain Yoda is just thankful. Thanksful for this opportunity, thankful for the very good collaboration in the group and thankful for having such a superp tactician like Hugo Marxer, who himself has won a classic race once. Meanwhile, in the peloton, Lars Hirschfeld even got the first place behind the three escapees, very surprisingly. But the final word, we give again to Alain: A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack. Oh, well, wait, wrong quote for the wrong occasion, here's the right one: When nine hundred years old you reach, look as good you will not. Correct.

November's gone, Paul's here

Another month is over and Peterlin has just won two stages, points and general classement at the Volta a Minas Gerais. After this very succesful November, Team FL spoils it and hires a new climber, Paul Betancourt from Costa Rica.

The Volta a Minas Gerais started and ended exeptionally for Team FL. Even after losing much time on stage 4, the Team around captain Fran Peterlin did not give up and fought until the very end. And in the end, there was this crazy climb: 10% with *** Pavé followed by 20% with *** pavé. Perfect terrain for "Franz Peter" who used it to his advantage, won the stage and the tour by gaining 33 seconds when he attacked at the 20*** and even increasing the gap on the way to the finish line. But also the beginning of November was successful with 5 race wins before the final tour started.

Being successful usually leads to money too, which leads to new riders. In this case to Paul Betancourt, another exeptional thing for Team FL. He has been the first rider since ages who has not been bought at the youth transfermarket. The 26 years old climber from Costa Rica is the perfect addition to the Team FL classics Team around Peterlin and can also be leader in more mountainous terrain. Paul was initially hired by HANSA-Cycling but then got waived in November. Anyway, Team FL takes him with pleasure, of course also because of his skills:

- Image Paul Betancourt, 26, Climber, Costa Rica

-> 83-57-79-55-58, 53 Pavé, 58 Reg

(Btw, before the team managements forgets it, they also say hello to Royston Lighting, our latest pavé import from Australia, who has been riding for Team FL in his third month already.)

¡Que viva México!

Team FL has just finished the December Tour in Mexico. With 5 stage wins and Franz Peter's win of the points jersey and his GC podium place, the Liechtenstein cycling team arrived home successfully (plane didn't crash!).

Maybe it could have been one or two more stage wins. Especially Fran Peterlin had chances for four of them. But in the end, two by Federspiel, two be Peterlin and a suprising one by Betancourt were enough to make the team management happy. Additionally, Peterlin took home the points jersey and finished 3rd in the GC, on the podium. One place behind, you could find new Team FL rider Paul Betancourt who did a great job in his first tour for his new team. So did the rest of their team mates. Especially the helpers worked their asses off for their leaders, sometimes even Federspiel for Peterlin. What a team effort. In the end, Hugo Marxer quarrelled a bit with the missed chances on two stages and a bigger effert in the GC. But also the old Team FL tactician had a smile on his face, when the tour was over. Even more, when the plane from Mexico City landed safely at Zurich Airport...

Joyeux (Pavé de) Noël!

As first Team FL rider, Valentin Bratoev wins the traditional Decemberrace Pavé de Noël. It also is his first race win ever.

For the first time ever, Team FL wins the RSF Classic Pavé de Noël, this year on the Via Appia. In the finish, he was first in front of his team mate Royston Lightning, a double victory for the Liechtenstein cycling team. This race win is the first one in the Palmarès of the young bulgarian rider, after a GC-podium and winning the youth classement Jungfahrerwertung at Sachsen Pflaster. At the same time, Team FL shows its new found strentgh on pavé. The result gives hope for the Tour des Pavé in January and the Belgian spring classics, when also Fran Peterlin will be back in the Team.

In this spirit, Team FL wishes everybody a Merry Christmas as well as happy and relaxing holidays.

Team FL Rückblick 2014

As every year, Team FL presents a review of the past cycling year, as usual in German. At the end of the review you can see the nominations for the Team FL rider of the year incl. the link to vote for your favorite. At the same time, we say good bye to Lars Hirschfeld and hello to Barton Zwiebach!

Dafür gewinnt Peterlin die Tour of Alberta, inkl.

Team FL gathers classements at the Tour des Pavés 2015

Everything but the team classement. That's the final result of Team FL's Tour des Pavés 2015 regarding the win of the general, the points and the youth classement. And one stage. Meanwhile the winner of this stage, Fran Peterlin, has been voted as Team FL's rider of the year 2014

With only four other teams, Team FL started at the Tour des Pavés morning edition last week. Well, it also finished it last week, which had some very succesful results. First to tell is that Valentin Bratoev has won the Tour des Pavé, resp. its general classement. At the same time, Fran Peterlin, Team FL's only stage winner during the tour, gathered the points jersey while Royston Lighting was the best rider under the age 24 years. Hugo Marxer admits too, that this has been a succesful start into the new year.

Regarding the old year, the decision about Team FL's rider of the year 2014 has been made. Although Phineas Federspiel has won two important classic races and many other not so important races, it was Fran Peterlin who has been chosen by the public, 3 votes vs 2 while Alain Yoda got the last one of the unexpected six votes overall. Why we don't know, but in the end, it's the result that counts and hence we pronunce "Franz Peter" as Team FL's rider of the year 2014.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.

Team FL with no worries Down Under

Second tour in 2015 for Team FL, second tour win. After Bratoev won the Tour des Pavés, Paul Betancourt won the Tour Down Under.

Team FL started at the Tour Down Under 2015 without Federspiel and Kilfeather, but with the two leaders Peterlin and Betancourt. While the former was responsible for good placements during the flat stages, the latter was the clear GC leader. And did well against his opponents, who obviously were in bad shape. So he didn't only win stage 5, but also the GC. And it seems the bonifications he got at that intermediary sprint, where he gaines 3 secs, helped a lot as in the end only 2 secs sperated him from Valerio Pontermolesi from Fly Eagles Fly. Besides that, it was Alain Yoda with an exclamation mark, winning the mountain classement and being only the frouth Team FL rider to do so. The good team result was completed by Peterlin and Bogdanic, who both entered the top 5 in the GC and the team itself winning the team classement.
I didn't mean to say it. But I meant what I said.

Moderate success at spring classics

Team FL was well prepared for the spring classics 2015. The team's success though had to play catch-up with the expectations. And it seems it could catch up in the end.

Valentin Bratoev, Royston Lightning and especially Fran Peterlin were the hopes for the Liechtenstein cycling team for success during the spring classics period in 2015. But the whole campaign started with bad odds. Omloop was a disaster, MSR was only frustrating and then it turned out, that the team would not be able to ride Paris Roubaix. At least, Peterlin could win the semi-classic race Dwars door Vlanderen before Harelbeke was disappointing too and Gent-Wevelgem was thrown away in the sprint. Same happend in the Ronde van Vlaanderen and finally at the only monument, Team FL hasn't won yet: Lüttich-Bastogne-Lüttich.

In the end, the only achievement was that Phineas Federspiel could defend his title at the Scheldeprijs. This makes him a race species of rider who could win the same classic race twice and the first Team FL rider to win three classic races during his career. This was least one bright spot during spring 2015. But for the rest of the team, especially Fran Peterlin, the sprint 2015 was a disapoointment. So the whole team has now the chance to recover at the next highlight of the year, the Giro. Maybe it all pays off in the end. But first, Team FL might as well attend the Tour de Romandie before going for the three week trip to Italy.

Rehabilitation at the Tour de Romandie

The spring classics ended with mixed feelings for Fran Peterlin. At the Tour de Romandie, he compensated for that when winning two stage, the points and the general classement.

It was a nice forecast for the Giro. The Tour de Romandie 2015 9h edition started with Alkworld and Dead And Alive, two possible Afternoon Giro starters. While Dead And Alive still has a pretty young team around Heisenberg, Alkworld trump card is Moses Maimonides, a proven winner, together with a strong team around him. Esp. those teams together with Peterlin, Bogdanic and Betancourt dictated the first part of the tour and reduced the GC favourites to Heisenberg, Maimonides and Peterlin when distancing the climbers. In the end, it was Peterlins finishing and time trial abilities that gave him the advantage over the other two, who themselves were stronger in the mountains. All in all, the Tour was a huge success for Team FL and for Peterlin, who is now the Teams all time record holder for stage race wins (4) and second in points classements (5) behind Stefano Benni (who won it at Romandie in 2013). And it showed the abilites of the new Team FL riders Simon, Tejeda and Zwiebach as valuable helpers. They will be accompagnied by the Liechtenstein prospect Otto Ospelt from now on, who has just joined the team. Now the Giro is waiting for most of them, hopefully with some success too.

Age cleaning at Team FL before the Giro

Tomorrow, the great highlight of 2015 starts for Team FL: The Giro. But before, the team needs some age cleaning.

Ryan Kilfeather has already left the team in April, leaving 7 race wins. Now, just before the Giro, Alain Yoda and Peter Kasper followed his example. While Kasper was the perfect leader of the FL sprint train and thus responsible for many of Federspiels race wins, Yoda was the perfect helper who had his own highlights: Winning the GP Montreal 2014 and the mountain classement at the Tour Down Under 2015. All three of them were valuable members of the 2014 campaign and often an important gear-weel in the team's success. Other riders might leave the team during the Giro, like Phineas Federspiel and Dominikos Petrakis. The goal is to have new young and motivated riders to start the second half of 2015. While the team management still doesn't know exactly in which direction this transformation should lead, one thing's for sure: Hugo Marxer will make the most of it.

Franz Peter is No. 1!

For the second time in it's history, a Team FL riders is No. 1 in the riders' ranking. After Stefano Benni accomplished this before, it's now Fran Peterlin who took over on Sunday, after his second Giro stage win.

Week 1 of the Giro 2015 is over. So far, Hugo Marxer is very pleased with the outcome of the team's effort. 4 stage wins, 2 by Lichtenstein and 2 by Peterlin, who also leads the points classement currently (and does not intend to change that). But there is even more to enjoy. Since yesterday, Fran "Franz Peter" Peterlin has been the second rider in Team FL history to be No. 1 in the riders' ranking. First was Stefano Benni, who chased the points classement at the Giro two years ago (successfully). Btw, Franz Peter also overtook Benni in race wins with now standing at 22. So, there were a lot of things to celebrate for Team FL after week 1 of the Giro 2015. And it seems the riders are well prepared for week 2, although the had a bit of a long night into the rest day. Anyway, the goals are clear, the team is focused. Now we hope that Hugo Marxer will make them execute what they have been travelling to Italy for.

Maglia Rossa for Peterlin

Fran Peterlin won the Maglia Rossa at the Giro this year and finished 3rd overall in the General Classement. Furthermore, Team FL could celebrate 6 stage wins and is happy to welcome new riders in June.

The last Team FL rider to win the Maglia Rossa at the Giro was no one less than Stefano Benni. So Fran Peterlin has been the second rider to win the points classement in Italy, but the first one to finish on the GC podium. "Franz Peter" also finished May as No.1 in the world ranking. But that's not all. Fran Peterlin and Eric Liechtenstein together could win 6 stages this year, 3 each. Although the team missed some opportunites in flat stages, Hugo Marxer states that this year's Giro has been a great success, also because other Team FL riders, like Paul Betancourt on GC place 6 or Elvis Bogdanic who finished 14h in this category completed the good team result, also with good stage placements.

In the meantime, an important Team FL rider quit cycling. Phineas Federspiel, two time Scheldeprijs and one time Gent-Wevelgem winner, left the business at the age of 36, after 18 race wins in 101 races and winning one stage race, one points classement and one youth classement. As a sprinter, he obviously missed the mountain classement to complete his palmares. Anyway, his departure gives room for new riders. So Team FL hired allround sprinter Ignatz Lichtenstein from Hungary and classics talent Elwyn Oxley from Barbados, both 21 years old riders with lots of upside:

-> 48-68-53-54-66, 63 Pavé, 40 Reg

-> 55-72-79-52-64, 68 Pavé, 43 Reg

Oxley strong as an ox in Hamburg

Much to the pleasure of the Team management, Elwyn Oxley wins his first classic race in Hamburg. It has been his first race win ever, so double the joy.

220 km from Kiel to Hamburg, three times the Waseberg: No Problem for Elwyn Oxley. He an his helpers layed low during the race only to outsmart everybody in a reduced sprint, in which Oxley could win the cat. 5 classic for Team FL for the first time. Interestingly, Oxley did with his first race win what Fran Peterlin could not achieve in 25: win a classic race. So hopefully this is a good sign. But even if not, it's a classic win for Oxley and for Team FL, 24th so far.

Further renewal at Team FL

Old Peterlin, Betancourt and Bogdanic left in August while young Boxhill joined Team FL. At 1 September more young riders could be added to the Team FL roster.

The Team FL management is happy to welcome three new young riders at the Liechtenstein cycling team. All three add to another part of the race: While Perry Henzell closes the sprinter gap that Federspiel created, Tasher will be the new pavé specialist. Finally, Dif will be a resourceful added rider for hilly parts to support Oxley or ride on his own behalf. Another good thing, it can only go up from now, as they all suck in downhill... In the meantime, Hugo Marxer is still looking for more addings. Maybe it will be a climber, maybe another pavé riders. I hope he will surprise everyone with a smart choice. Unfortunately this could mean that more riders have to leave Team FL.

Good start in autumn classics season continues

Elwyn Oxley wins in Hamburg by, Perry Henzell gets second in Fourmies and now Eric Liechtenstein wins in Quebec by: Team FL started well into the autumn classic season 2015.

At the start in Quebec, it didn't look well for Team FL. Lots of experienced team with nice line-ups were hanging around in the peloton, riders like Röntgen and Hund (Dead And Alive), Tronborg (radke tour) or Gamache (Chartreuse whatever). Anyway, Robertlandy Simon and Carlos Tejeda made it into the early group which cooperated well. But so did the teams in the peloton. Eventually, the group got caught on the last 5km and the final climb would decide about the result. In the end, a reduced peloton could catch the puncheurs Bölts and Tronborg and a bunch sprint decided who wins. Not too shabby for Team FL with Eric Lichtenstein and Elwyn Oxley in the mix. And really, Eric could outsmart all others off the wheel of Diego Flores from kernabateam.
