Phineas makes it 20

Gent-Wevelgem, won by Phineas Federspiel, has been the 20th classic victory for Team FL, the second G-W win after Pedro Garrido did it in 2011.

It was sprinters vs. Pavé specialists, Team FL and Gaurain agains Falkenbier and r Quick. At least until the final km. Then it was Team FL vs. Gaurain and perhaps a bit vs. Liberty Seguros, but only a bit. In the end, Phineas could play out his good form and used his train to save a small Gap against Gerwin Neelissen, who had his form high at MSR. After missing Omloop, a 2nd place at MSR (Flachbart) and a 3rd at Harelbeke (Wahlforss), this is the first classic win for Team FL in 2014. It's the 20th overall classic win which no leaves only the beaten r Quick in front (27 wins) in the eternal list of classic wins.

In the meantime, Benni Büchel leaves Team FL. He decided to make space for the next Generation, the sprint generation 2015. He will be succeeded by a hopeful young prospect of who we don't know the name nor nationality yet...

Tomasz wins De Panne

Tomasz Kowalski wins the three days of De Panne and succeeds Kari Steinsson in doing so. The good start into the "classics" April with the three monuments RVV, PR and LBL gives hope for more good results. For future good results, Team FL welcomes Peter Kasper in the team.

From stage 2 on, the stage results were only secondary to Hugo Marxer, who's goal was to keep Tomasz Kowalski in the good position he's been getting hold of since stage 1 of De Panne. And it worked well. In the end, Kowalski overtook Manuel Rodriguez from Alkworld and was never in danger losing it to another rider. In the meantime, the Team FL sprint section tried to ride for good results too with Joe getting 3rd at stage 2 and 3a and Martti having good placements too. But in the end, it was the GC victory that counted most, while Ryan Kilfeather even got 2nd in the yout classement behind overall 2nd Rodriguez.

While 9 riders were racing, the rest of the team was practicing in Belgium for the upcoming classic races. New to the training team was Peter Kasper. The young slovakian rider joined Team FL in April and is kind of a sprint allrounder. He even might become a leader for spring 2015 and late pavé races in 2014 too if he trains well:

Phineas does it again

At the Scheldeprijs 2014, Phineas Federspiel won another classic for Team FL after Gent-Wevelgem. Contrary to Kari Steinsson last year, he won it in the final sprint of a decimated sprinter group.

Phineas Federspiel might not be the best sprinter (yet) when it comes to pace in the end. But he for sure is a more complete rider with his age of 23 than other riders will be with 32. He has already shown his abilities at Gent-Wevelgem, when he won the Belgian classic with hills and pavé parts. Well, today there were no hills but pavé parts. And again, Phineas could keep up the pace of the pavé specialists Janis Smedins and Wilhelm Wahlforss and profitted from the FL sprint train led by Wahlforss, Kasper and Rosenblatt. It's his second classic win overall and the third win for Team FL at the Scheldeprijs. Last year, it was Kari Steinsson who won it for the Liechtenstein cycling team. Although he proved his skills in classic races, Federspiel will not attend Paris-Roubaix at the weekend, when he gets a rest to be fully fit again either for the Giro or the parallel program. Hopefully he will pass the winning staff to one of the other FL riders.

Irish celebration in Italy

Young Team FL rider Ryan Kilfeather won the GP di Faenza Parco Bucci. The 23 yo irish lad continues the success of the team's new offspring.

The GP die Faenza Parco Bucci was the perfect race to give the riders a chance who will not attend Paris-Roubaix at the weekend. And those riders also showed their skills today, with the help of Janis Smedins. In the end, it was the combined team effort from classic riders Jan Flachbart and Lars Hirschfeld together with the Latvian pavé specialist who brougth Ryan in the perfect postition for the final attack, three km before the finish line. At the last km, Ryan and two other riders caught the long leading Amr Diab from bergwerk and decided the race in a four men sprint, which the Irish Team FL rider won. Like Phineas Federspiel, who won the Scheldeprijs yesterday, Ryan is still only 23 years old and already a promise for the future if he keeps on developping like this. Anyway, we also hope that Smedins trained well today for the big challenge in the hell of the north on Saturday.

Btw, Ariel Weisman won a race too on Tuesday!

Mysterious personnel decisions at Team FL

Although the team is performing well, Joe Friesenbichler and Tomasz Kowalski got fired just before Easter. So far, nobody knows why, but some rumours already found their way to the cycling world.

Both Joe Friesenbichler and Tomasz Kowalski have their merits for Team FL. Both won races and/or stage races and did their job as it was expected. But both are getting old, although Joe was still a great lead out guy in the sprint for young Federspiel and Tomasz even won De Panne this year. But then again, both are getting old. Anyway, on Saturday morning, senior PR manager William de Worde announced that the team management after consultation with technical director Hugo Marxer decided to waive both riders and release their contracts immediatly. The whole Liechtenstein cycling community was surprised about that move, although insiders already heard the rumours that circulated around the river Rhine and the Alps: The team prepared a huge deal for May. The team management dared not to give more information at the moment and asked the media to wait until May. So far, Team FL thanks Joe Friesenbichler and Tomasz Kowalski for unforgettable moments (can't remember to tell you about them...), and their efforts for the team. In the end, it even gives the impression that Joe and Tomasz were quite happy and looking forward to retirement. While Kowalski will go back to poland and help at his fathers automobile spare parts buisness, Joe will stay in Liechtenstein and further act a as Federspiel's mentor.

Finally, their numbers:

TFLBC

From May 2014, Team FL starts the TFLBC, the Team FL Balcan Connection for the 2015 spring classics campaign. the TFLBC succeds the 2013/2014 Baltic Connection with rider like Janis Smedins or Arunas Paulauskas.

This spring, the cycling world was celebrating riders like Janis Smedins, Arunas Paulauskas and Wilhelm Wahlforss from the Baltic region in Europe. This was not a coincidence as the team's management together with Hugo Marxer decided to focuse on that part of the world. The joint venture with the respective cycling associations was so fruitful, that Team FL has decided to try it again, with another European region, the Balcan. Hence, the new founded Team FL Balcan Connection, short TFLBC will start in May 2014 as successor of the Team FL Baltic Connection, short, TFLBC..., hmmm... well.... Anyway, the frist rider to fit the conditions will be Team FL's latest acquisition, young Fran Peterlin from Croatia:

California after Dunkerque

After winning the team classement at Dunkerque, Team FL immediatly flies to California only to win the first stage of the tour with the same name. Rosenblatt is not in yellow and green, while Vatca wears red.

It will be remembered as the shame of Dunkerque, although Team FL won the team classement. But having Wahlforss both in yellow and green for the last stage and losing it then does not look very good. Anyway, Dunkerque is over, Hugo punished them all (no details here...) and now Team FL is attending the Tour of California at 30° or more. But it seem the punishment worked well as Martti Rosenblatt won the first stage gloriously against the other two competing two (!) teams and is now wearing yellow and green while hard working Desideriu Vatca wears red at least until the day after tomorrow. The pretty exhausted team is happy again and waits for the ITT tomorrow, where nothing much is to be gaines or lost, besides money.

Ryan makes it t(w)(o)o

Marti Rosenblatt won stage one of California. Now, Ryan Kilfeather celebrates the second vicotry for Team FL at stage four from Monterey to Cambria

The main goal for Team FL is still the points classement, although it does not look very realistic against Jamie Cook, who will gain a big advantage tomorrow and on Saturday agains Ryan and Martti. But anyway, Team FL won't make a present and will fight for it. So far, two stage wins were the result, and maybe more will follow.

Race win 200 and 201 at California

The Tour of California 2014 happens to be a financial success, while the points classement was missed cleary. Nevertheless, Team FL could celebrate its race wins No. 200 and 201 on the last two stages.

It was a too difficult task for Ryan Kilfeather in the end, although winning two stages at California. Jamie Cook's team carried him not only to the tour win and simultaneously the win of the youth classement, but also to the win of the points classement. Nevertheless, Hugo Marxer called the tour a big success regarding its financial impact and the win of four stages, two times Kilfeather, two times Martti Rosenblatt. On the last two stages, Team FL could even celebrate its race wins number 200 and 201, still with Stefano Benni holding the record with 21 races won, followed by the two sprinters Cédric Schmarotz (13) and Jean Ollé Ollé (12). The next stage race for Team FL will be either Norway or Bayern. While Bayern seems to be fixed already, Norway has not been yet. The team management is still considering the one day races as a better option for the team. Anyway, what is much more important is the search for new cycling prospects for the upcoming month and sprint 2015 especially.

Phineas with two (out of two) too

At the World Port Classic from Rotterdam to Antwerpen and back, Phineas Federspiel wins both stages, the GC, points and youth classement. Meanwhile, that's the 10th tour win for Team FL

Wihlem Wahlforss missed the 10th tour win for Team FL at Dunkerque miserably. At California, Rosenblatt and Kilfeather each won two stages, but also missed any tour classement. It needed the strength of Gent-Wevelgem winner Phineas Federspiel to change that. At the World Port Classic he won both stages and could celeberat his first and finally the team's 10 tour win. Furthermore he won the points and the youth classement (that guy is only 23yo) too. But everything was only possible with a decent team around him. There were the sprint helpers Peter Kasper and lead out sprinter Martti Rosenblatt; the fast guys to close the finish: Dominikos Petrakis and Wilhelm Wahlforss as well as the never tired helpers who chased the escapers and worked most of the stages: Alain Yoda, Ariel Weisman and Desideriu Vatca. Together and with the help of tactical genius Hugo Marxer (together with the help of Joe Friesenbichler, Phineas' mentor), they beat the contestants and helped to finish May 2014 in a very pleasant way. Nevertheless, Team FL will participate in the one day race tomorrow, celebrating the victories and enjoy the view in Italy, maybe watching the Giro stage at that day.

July starts well

Team FL currently participants at the Solidaronosc tour in Poland. After Phineas won stage 1a, Fran Peterlin has won his first stage ever and is not leading the GC with one stage remaining.

But first things frist, welcome Elvis Bogdanic to the team. The future classic rider and Peterlin supporter joined Team FL in June and is happily practicing, or not. Anyway, we hope he will help to lead Team FL to further success.

Now back to where we've started... Ah yes, Phineas Federspiel won the first half stage of the Solidarnosc tour very surprisingly. After the sprint train with Peterlin and Kasper worked well, Phineas showed a good instinct and followed ABC's lead sprinter in the right moment. The result stands for its own. The second half stage and the stage after that were dominated by the strongest team with a, uhm, two and a half sprinters (more Alan than Charlie) Chartreuse Cycling. Then today, the main GC stage was not too surprising, in the end the classic riders with sprint decided it with Peterlin in front of everybody. Now he's wearing nice yellow and also leading the youth classement. Tomorrow follows the final stage with no chances in the GC, hopefully, and a bunch sprint. Again for Phineas?

Good bye Jan Flachbart

While a young Serbian joined the team, the old Czech left it. Jan Flachbart decided to retire from professional cycling at the end of June. The former czech champion, stage (4) and stage race (1) winner will be thought of dearly. He collected 4878 eternal points during his career for Team FL in 179 races. He almost topped his career with the MSR win this year, but unfortunately got second in the final sprint of the first group. Nevertheless, we wish him all the best in the future and may his beard grow even flatter.

July stays good

Good start in July went on as Fran Peterlin won the Solidarnosc tour 2014. Furthermore, he also won the youth classement.

Future team leader Fran Peterlin shows already with 23 what he's capable off. In a style that reminds a lot about Stefano Benni, he won stage 3 of the Solidarnosc tour and succeeded in the General and the Youth classement. Of course, he relied on his supporters in the team like Lars Hirschfeld and mostly his lead out sprinter Ryan Kilfeather, but the team is well aware that Fran is not a one legged rider himself. Together with Phineas Federspiel's stage win, the Solidarnosc tour was a huge success, also financially. Now the team management tries to add more fitting riders to the roster, looking for young prospects in the wanted categories.

In memoriam Elmar Goop

First I wanted to write something about July being very a very successful month for Team FL, how Kilfeather won a race yesterady and so on. Now all I will write is the following...

...The 71 year old passionate cyclist from Gamprin, Liechtenstein, died today from his injuries after a cycling accident that happend on Sunday. He was a man who followed his dream, that was cycling, even at his age.

Rest in peace, Elmar Goop.

New for old

Arunas Paulauskas quits cycling at the age of 35 while two young guns join Team FL in August after Team FL finishes Wallonie with the win of the youth classement by Fran Peterlin.

July is over, follow by August, as almost every year. For Team FL, this also means saying good bye and hello at the same time. The good bye this time is reserved for Arunas Paulauskas. TheLithuanian pavé specialist was mainly known as helper for Smedins and Wahlforss and thus quit cycling without any palmares entry on his own. Still almost a hundered races and almost a thousand eternal points later, he leaves Team FL well respected. Arunas wil go back to Lithuania and work for an IT company, skills he acquired during his long stays in Liechtenstein, when his help was not needed. Finally, we presend his numbers:

- Image Arunas Paulauskas, 35, Helper

Best Skills: 55-83-62-49-49, Pavé 82, Reg 45
Bought: 01.05.2013
Retired: 31.07.2014
Races: 93
Race wins: 0
Eternal points: 935

Welcome Martin and Eric

As Arunas Paulauskas left Team FL, contracts with two new riders were already signed. Martin Hrast from Slovenia and Eric Lichtenstein (!) from Argentina have joined the Liechtenstein cycling team today and are ready to make their contribution to the teams success. As Martin will be more the typical helper type like former Alex Goop or Walter Walch, Eric, who is said to be related to good old Roy Liechenstein in a very weird way, will be the successor of Martti Rosenblatt who is already 35 years old too. The riders start with these skills, but hopefully develop into something very beautiful over time:

- Image Eric Lichtenstein, 21, Sprint Allrounder, Argentina

47-69-64-46-64, 65 Pavé, 38 Reg

- Image Martin Hrast, 21, Helper, Slovenia

46-67-69-53-56, Pavé 68, Reg 45

Peterlin with second youth classement win in July

In the meantime, Fran Peterlin has won the youth classement at Wallonie. Yay. Even more would have been possible for the unlucky Team FL during this stage race, but it seems that the FL riders have been dogged by bad luck. Anyway, Peterlin is the first rider for Team FL that wins two youth classements. And besides that, July was a quite successful month for Team FL. Hope the teams keeps that up.
