New rider for March 2021

In 2020 the team lost a lot of time in TTTs. So Hamish lost a lot of ground in GC fights. With the addition of Brandon the gaps in TTTs should be minimized a little.

Brandon Semenuk - CND
Name origin: Slopestyle MTB pro
Starting skills (age 21): 48-70-77-61-46, 41, 64,3 pave (bought for 1.404.300; low 95%)
Role/Goal: flat rider with some tt

February 2021 - review

20 races - 4.742 points - 2 wins - 1.589.255 earned - 4th in Div 2

Good start into the real season. Most important was Joel's win at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Form was set for the opening week as it was clearly the highlight of February. The team worked a lot and especially Tyler played an important role. In the end Joel sprinted to victory.

Besides that the team started at Tour de Provence (Wyn 2nd in GC) and Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var. Matteo Pavoni showed some skills when he won a stage in Fayence after a long break together with Emil. He also won the youth classement and he got 3rd in GC after a hard final day when he was still tired of the day before.

Rider of the month (February 2021): Joel Robert - winner of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

Goals for March 2021:
- Strade Bianche
- Tirreno-Adriatico
- Milano-Sanremo
- E3
- Gent-Wevelgem
- Dwars door Vlaanderen

New rider for April 2021

Since Blake will really retire soon (if I dont forget it again), a new rider will join for April. After the retirement of Tim Gajser there was a lack of 60-80. I could have waited for a classic or sprinter to get on the market but I liked the skills of Jago very much. We will see how he will do in training...

Jago Geerts - BEL
Name origin: Motocross rider
Starting skills (age 21): 50-74-78-50-55, 48, 67,1 pave (bought for 1.610.000; 95%)
Role/Goal: flat rider / 60-80

New rider for April 2021

Surprise transfer... I was randomly looking for a new sprinter and just did some 95% bids. Even though the downhill skill is far from average, it's a nice addition to the team and maybe a better leader for MSR 2022 as Toby was in 2021.

Twan VanGendt - NED
Name origin: BMX rider
Starting skills (age 21): 50-56-72-49-77, 36, 56 pave (bought for 1.740.000; 95%)
Role/Goal: sprinter / MSR 2022

Retirements

Blake Gutzeit
545 points // 169 races // Best skills: 54-82-82-48-44 // Started: 49-67-79-48-44

Steve Holcombe
1.748 points // 121 races // Best skills: 72-77-76-51-45 // Started: 55-71-76-52-45

Toby Price retires

It's time to call it a career with 34 as Toby was not planned for many races in April. He was bought as a cheap sprinter and just did what he had to do. He was good for some money sprints.

3.546 points // 207 races // Best skills: 50-71-78-48-82 // Started: 46-66-78-48-66

March 2021 - review

26 races - 4.539 points - 4 wins - 1.980.397 earned - 15th in Div 1

Great month for me even if there were some ups and downs. But 4 wins is good for me and I liked my riding most of the time. Close call for rider of the month as Joel did win DDV in a great race and also Tyler was maybe the "MVP" of the team in March.

Goals for March 2021:
- Strade Bianche - 1st Emil (a little lucky for the win but also very strong Emil)
- Tirreno-Adriatico - 4th Wyn (good result in GC but no stage win, no podium and no white jersey, everything close)
- Milano-Sanremo - 72nd Toby (tried for the sprint with Toby but not successful, bad day in a big afternoon group)
- E3 - 5th Joel (tried the long solo with Tyler as he siebed all others at Kwaremont. but was too long from finish. Joel sprinted good)
- Gent-Wevelgem - 3rd Joel and Emil 5th (lucky sprint for me. did some helping mistake with Toby so he was not possible as leader anymore)
- Dwars door Vlaanderen - 1st Joel and 4th Tyler (great race, worked our perfectly)

Rider of the month (March 2021): Emil Johannson - winner of Strade Bianche

Goals for April 2021:
- RVV
- PR
- Brabant
- Fleche Wallone
- LBL

New rider for May 2021

Surprise move on the transfer market since I bid more than 100% by mistake. I really like the skills but was not ready to overpay for this rider. But now, I am ok with having him as one of the leaders in Spring 2022. Darren comes out of the talent factory in Canada where the likes of Finn Iles and Tyler Medaglia are from. He is going for flat training and also mountain.

Darren Berrecloth - CND
Name origin: Mtb rider
Starting skills (age 21): 50-72-76-51-53, 38, 73,2 pavé (bought for 1.830.100; 10X%)
Role/Goal: pavé leader / 56-86-78-50-53; 83 pavé

Nothing happening here lately. No transfers, not many races. With a lot of work and summertime there is not much time for c4f. Now August is time for holidays (7 months waiting is enough), so not many races again. No Vuelta for sure although I set form since there was a little chance. Maybe I will be back for Binckbank Tour. If Tyler and Darren have a good training month it might be the time to pass the baton on to Darren, just like in 2020 when Finn Iles was in the mix and young Tyler won the only stage race in his career.

TEAM NEWS: Not much time to write much. But somehow important to give some credit to Tyler and Emil. They both retired yesterday. They won some really nice races. Tyler -> PR 21 and Binckbank Tour 20. Emil -> Strade Bianche 21. I had a lot of fun with them and especially Tyler was a training monster, never had a 60-89-79 before. And I liked it to have him with low sprint skill, it's much more fun to win solo or in small groups after an attack.

Now it's time for new riders: After the last transfer announcement of Darren, Joel Smets and Arnaud Demeester came into the team. For October two new riders will join the team. Here are the skills at 21y:

1) 48-69-78-49-51, 41reg, 62,7pavé
2) 47-70-79-49-47, 51reg, 72,4pavé

Name have to be decided...

TEAM NEWS: New climber for the team, 71-56-76-50-53, 53,9pavé, 60reg. Since my climbers lack some mtn skill most of the time, I decided to go for a weaker climber again. 2,97mio seems very expensive for a 71 climber, but with high reg and nice b skills, it's very ok for me. In the end, training decides. I hope for something like 84-63. Name is still unkown.

TEAM NEWS: two new riders in the team for April. Flat rider with low reg and flat rider with pavé skill who will be trained to a 55-85, or better. March was the second best month in my c4f history regarding money: 2.3mio earned. Happy with that. Unhappy with lots of 2nd places and some close sprints. But also happy about these races because they were fun and other good teams won like Gipfel or Quick. Matteo in good shape at PN: two stage wins plus points jersey. Twan the #2 very often but at least won Handzame Classic. Pavé riders a little down but their races will hopefully come in April.

Mads and Pyry seems a good duo, too ! Mads vs Pavlo in Roubaix 2023! ;-)

TEAM NEWS: New rider for May. Mikael Persson from Sweden will be a possible leader for 2023 at RVV, Het Volk, Strade. He is not as talented as the likes of Tyler, Finn and Darren. But I am looking for some good flat training. Starting skills: 56-69-78-52-53, 45reg, 70,5pavé. Bought for 1.77mio, around 96%. It was a close deal as other teams placed better bids... but I decided to buy him with an instant purchase.

TEAM NEWS: 4 riders retired. Loic Larrieu (always a good helper), Brandon Semenuk (helper and money TT guy), Kees VanDerVeen (Flat rider and pavé helper, 1x stage at Volta Algarve) and last but not least: Matteo Pavoni. From 70-56 to 82-65 was enough to win 4 stages, highlights: Stage 6 of Giro 2021, 3rd at LaDoyenne 2021 and 2 stages at Paris Nice 2022. With some better sprint management there was more possible. Not a winner, but always good for Top5 or Top10 against better climbers.

One new rider for May: Jesper Börjesson. So there will be a Swedish duo training on hilly pavés. His skills: 48-68-77-48-50, 47reg, 71,3pavé. 1,423mio/95%. 55-85 is the goal.

Romours say, Jesper was also in contract negotiation with the Gipfelstuermer manager! Great rider for 2023 spring classics

TEAM NEWS: New rider for June. Samuli Puhakainen from Finland will join the team. He is not very talented in any skill but is a mediocore flat rider and has some sprinting skills. He has to improve that as this will be his main focus in training. Starting skills: 48-69-75-46-64, 35reg, 65,1pavé. He was bought for 1,366mio (95%). He could become a good leadout if some sprinter will join the team later this year.

TEAM NEWS: Kalle Rovanperä from Finland joins the team in July. Sprinter - 48-59-78-47-81; 35 reg. Donnt know how I will train him until now. Would like to have him prepared for MSR2023. I think I paid around 97 or 98% but dont really remember and I cant see if others also bid.

Jago Geerts left the team just before the new signing of Kalle. I really enjoyed having a rider like Jago in the team. 60-85s really are one of the most fun riders in c4f.

TEAM NEWS: Joel Smets retired and Linus is already in the team as the young classic. Two flat riders will join in September to help Kalle and Samuli in the future. With 52 an d 51 sprint they are also good for escapes. Max will try to get a 50-87-77 rider and Lasse will a little for for mountain training: ~55-87-78... or better (would be nice)

TEAM NEWS:

Some money was made with retirements:
2022-12-05 Sale Brage Vestavik $708,840
2022-11-05 Sale Roan VanDeMoosdijk $670,504
2022-11-05 Sale Mattia Guadagnini $420,578
2022-10-28 Sale Arnaud Demeester $542,989

Brage, the "classic rider" retired and so did the pure flat rider Mattia. Also the Pavé-riders Arnaud and Roan retired when the offseason started.

There highlights:
2022-04-17 Classic3rd Arnaud Demeester L Enfer du Nord
2022-08-28 StageWin Brage Vestavik Bretagne Classic
2022-07-15 StageWin Roan VanDeMoosdijk Le Tour Et. 13 : Le Bourg d Oisans - St Etienne
2022-07-06 StageWin Arnaud Demeester Le Tour Et. 5 : Lille - Arenberg

Since October some new riders joined the team:
Hermanni Haljala (Finland) - Skills: 55-77-79-54-55-70,4-58 (22years, current skills)
Lukas Skiold (Sweden) - Skills: 56-73-77-53-50-71,2-38 (21years, current skills)
Nisse Bengtsson (Sweden) - Skills: 46-73-79-46-49-67,6-39 (20years)

Hermanni (started with 51-71) will focus his training on flat and mountain to become some kind of 60-80. Lukas (started 54-71) will train also flat and mountain, but it's not decided what will be more important. Nisse will become a pure flat rider, 50-85+.

For next season there is still no climber. Maybe Wil has to have a long career... The deal with Nisse was not really planned. Bought for 95% (1,242,000). So a climber-deal has to wait, but there was no suitable rider on the market anyway. Would be nice if Wil can hang on with some good skills until the end of March 2023.

TEAM NEWS:

Kimmo Hurri from Finland joins the team immediately just before first training. Since there will be no GT to be ridden for me in 2023, it might be a season without climber. Or maybe Wil has to do it for a long long time. I couldnt resist to buy another young flat rider for 95%. With some pavé skill he can be a helper during spring classics already and with his reg he can be a guy for escapes in short stage races. Kay, Edward and Cas will retire in the next months, so Kimmo can take over from there already. With his skills he is a good match to the team:

47 - 71 - 79 - 46 - 52, 56reg and 69,8pavé

TEAM NEWS

Roni Kytonen from Finland joined the team in February. A little bit overprized because of a typo but still very cheap because of reg. Better to pay 100k and get this rider. Compared to other transfers in c4f world it's not overprized. Rumors say, Roni is trying to become a real classic rider. So training will be mtn/flat and goal will be 70-80+. Let's see if this will become reality.

54 - 74 - 78 - 48 - 52, 36reg and 67,4pavé

Since I really like to read season reviews, I will start to give you some insides again, too. Just without short interviews.

January 2023

Stats
Div 1
Pos 17
Pts 5,331
Rcs 27
Win 1 (Stage), 1 (GC), 1 (Sprint)

Highlights
Not much for the first month of 2023. Tour of Atlas was very good. Wil Ruprecht won stage 5, the GC and the sprint jersey. It was pretty much by surprise. Tour Down Under was nothing really, I actually dont remember anything about it.

Finances
+ 1,700,198 - so for the bank account it was a good month. The Fantasy Tour helped a lot for this.

Training
Wil already downtraining early was a bummer. Also weeks of no training by the pavé-stars. But it was not all bad, I just dont remember the good things really.

Transfers
Nisse Bengtsson and Kimmo Hurri joined the team in early Janaury. For the most part they will be helpers or might go for escapes.

Goals for February 2023
Omloop.

February 2023

Stats
Div 1
Pos 16
Pts 5,938
Rcs 26
Win 5 (Stage), 2 (Sprint)

Highlights
For sure winning Omloop was the most important achievment in February. Although it was just a very small group, it was a nice fight with olaf. It was the third consecutive win at Omloop after Joel Robert (2021) and Darren Berrecloth (2022). In 2013 it was Darren Sproles with the first win for Team Bearclaw at Omloop. Besides Omloop, the stage races were good. Stage wins and sprint jerseys made it a good month in general.

Finances
+ 2,009,944 - one of the best months, so pretty happy with that.

Training
Wil losing more and more skills with 34 was expected but I still was hoping for some luck. Luckily Linus made some progress and got at least to 69-79. Roni started his pro-career with 4/4 for mtn/flat. The pavé-stars kept on striking. But helpers were doing good.

Transfers
As mentioned, Roni Kytonen started his career. With 54-74 he should become a real classic rider.

Goals for March 2023
Classics!!! Strade Bianche and MSR for sure the main goals. But also TA is on the program, one last dance for Wil. End of March E3 and Gent-Wevelgem will be important races, too.

March 2023

Stats
Div 1
Pos 16
Pts 6,541
Rcs 26
Win 4 (Stage)

Highlights
Strade Bianche - Linus Broaar winning on final climb after following a Taka attack and riding a smart race.
Tirreno stage 6 - Wil Ruprecht taking a big stage win late in his career.

De Panne 2nd for Samuli and Mads 2nd at E3. Team FL was just too strong in both races.

Finances
+ 1,981,883 - again approx. 2mio. Starting with cheap lineups and still winning a little bit helps a lot. Tirreno was financially not a good one.

Training
Some nice flat trainings here and there. But most important: Roni Kytonen going also 4/4 at 22 for mtn/flat. Being perfect until now, he needs to keep going now in mtn trainings.

Transfers
Wil Ruprecht retired as the second best rider in Bearclaw history: 10,785 career points, 89,1 points per race. He was not winning a lot. In his last season, the stage win at TA, was the most important one.
Oscar Härnström from Sweden joined the team as future lead out or flat sprinter. Training will show which races he can go for. Skills: 48-73-79-49-61-66,1-35. Price was just a little over 95% -> $1,429,000. 80+flat and 70+ sprint will be the goal. Maybe also training mtn to 50 or higher later in his career.

Goals for April 2023
RVV and PR!! Spring classics. LBL and Fleche Wallone too, but I probably dont have much to earn at the hilly parcours.
