Let's take a look how everything began.
The team was founded at the first of july in 2010. Our manager was (some would say still is) young and unexperienced. He started his career as the manager of the amateur team Bad Company in the middle of june 2010. But back to Vuvuzela. We started with nine 21 years old riders (not possible nowadays). They were all local talents of our south african team.

A mistake many newbies do and so we did with our first team: concentration on the mountain skill and neglecting the flat skill.

At the end of the next month our team looked a bit better:

No form? Noob!
You can see we hired some more experienced riders from other countries. The greece Alexandre Portepapoulos was one of them and today (11/9/15) he is still in our team with 37 years. Soon he will end his career as a rider but he will remain in our team as a scout for new greek talents. Vuvuzela has a constant department of greek riders. Actually we have five greeces and the national champion Kratos Nikolaos.
Another rider you can see is Nelson Mandala. He was a very talented mountain rider with an affinity to time trials. With 24 years he was very successful at the Campeonato de los Andes 2010 winning one stage, the white jersey and the second place of the tour. After that he left the team to another team which could pay him more salary. There he couldn't bring his performance any more and rode behind his success he had in our team.

Ok, the real story of Mandala was that he didn't train well and so we sold him with the age of 24. At that time riders till 24 years had a youth bonus of 15% when you sold them.

To be continued...

Aaron Hope wins Campeonato de los Andes 2011

The Andes are over now and we were very successful - more than expected before. We had good memories from 2010, but there the peloton was weaker than in 2011.
We started with Teko Hunter and Aaron Hope as double top(Doppelspitze?). Equipe Legende also started with two good mountain riders with equal mountain strength. They had less sprint but more TT-skill. After the TTT we were around 45 seconds behind them.
Then it came to stage 6. We attacked early on the stage at the long and steep mountain. At the foot of the mountain we sent Pappas and Backley. Some kms later Nikolaos followed them and at last Hope attacked. Compoaré was in Hopes wheel and he had to ride the rest of the mountain alone in tempo to reach his team mates.
First other teams were riding behind and they were very close to the group in the downhill, but then they stopped and our team was able to increase the gap of the group to some minutes (I think on maximum it were 4-5 minutes). But there was still the strong Compoaré in the group. We had to lose him. And so on a short but steep hill we tried the attack with Kratos and Aaron. Compoaré was not able to follow Hope. Wonderful! Kratos was able to support Hope a bit in the following kilometers but in the end Aaron had to finish it alone and he did it. Nice team work!
Hope had a really good day and so he got the stage victory and the yellow jersey. His form was set for the first week, but with the comfortable gap it was no problem for him in the second week. In the following stages he was able to defend his jersey day per day and in the end he won the tour! Hunter had no problem in supporting Hope and later he got his own stage.
That‘s a great success for our team. We also won 5 stages(3x Hope, 1x Hunter, 1x Harper)[The triple H! :D] and the green jersey for Hope.

Time for a break

From Christmas till now we only participated in one single race.
When will we start racing again? We don't know... We have less motivation and also less time. It looks like our break will continue.
Some parts of the team want to participate at Down Under, but it's not sure for now.
Thanks to most ( ) teams we challenged with. The last one and a half year was a funny time.
The passion for cycling is still there. Sooner or later we'll be back!
cu :)
