DNF. Okilani Sogivalu (Team Lidwinia)

A mass sprint with a peloton where about 20 to 30 riders were dropped. A group with Sopoanga and Itimaroroa went from the start and was very close to victory. Sopoanga was the strongest by far and had to pull the group on his own by the end. The peloton got closer and closer and then took the group 2 km from the finish. The sprint was of minor importance. This was Sopoangas day, but he just couldn't finish it in style.

A race where one of the self-proclaimed favorites lost his entire team on a hill and started blaming others for that "unfair" stuff. I had Henderson with hope he would get over the climb, but he didn't, so I started focussing on Rongomatane. That went alright. Kahausibware had some trouble on a later hill, but he returned. Then, a group escaped and I was not ready yet, leaving me to have Teikauea to bridge it, but he failed that and attacked on his own. In the last km, Rongomatane attacked fr4om the peloton and got 14th, just some seconds before the rest. But far from victory. Maybe I should have won, I think, because Rongomatan-a-like riders did get away.

Tomorrow a short time trial and then some days off for a holliday.

A good result, 5th with the 15th sprinter. I tried to be in the breakaway with Sopoanga and Limaalofa and that worked, but then a guy put his entire team in tempo for most of the race. So it was to be a mass sprint and this is what happened. Some useless attacks along the way and a last km try by Sopoanga, but that was it.

A decent race where Rongomatane was at the wrong wheel at the decisive moment. A group with Teikauea and Rapanui got away at the start and got over the first hill. Then Teikauea and most others were dropped by Rapanui and another guy, but the peloton got near and at the end, a group of climbers escaped and kept a lead of between 8 and 13 seconds to a big group with Rongomatane. In the end, Rongomatane and some others got a small gap on the rest of the group, but that was for the good placements, not the victory.

Now that Team Lidwinia is on the brink of promotion to the 3rd Division, team management decided to buy a new rider as team captain in stage races. The choice is on the Belizian George Barrow. He will replace marquee rider Foukimoana Rongomatane who left the team after a long service.

Foukimoana Rongomatane joined Team Lidwinia in May 2011 and was a good team leader, while never winning. His biggest achievements were his second place in the Austria Tour and his top-20 in the Vuelta. His never winning did cause some stirring within the team where youngster Rahi Kahausibware claimed leadership after his stage win in the Vuelta. Now, Rongomatane leaves the team, looking for a new one that shouldn't be a problem for a rider of his stature.

Replacement George Barrow is 23 years and a climber. His aim will be to be top class in the Giro next year. For that, he needs training, a lot of training, but if you don't know where you're sailing, the winds are never favorable. With the team getting younger, Lidwinia is getting somewhere for next season. Hopefully, Barrow will be worth his transfer sum.

Glad I took my climber team, because it was never going to be a sprint. A large group with Kahausibware and Teikauea got loose and were never seen again. in the end, Kahausibware was dropped and went on to support Barrow and Rapanui in the peloton. Teikauea sprinted to fourth in a group of 7 in the end.

Funafuti - The infamous bank robber and professional cyclist Kün Paynal has escaped the attention of the Tuvaluan police again. Just after the Clássica Rota das Terras do Demo race where he managed to evade the top-5 doping controls by being dead last in the escape group, he went for another escape, leaving the police behind. It was this month's 14th escape attempt by Paynal and now it appears to be succesful initially.

Kün Paynal is convicted of 37 failed bank robberies and considered a danger to public sanity in both Tuvalu and nearby Niulakita island. After his violent attacks on a candy factory in 2007 he was sentenced to 12 years in a merry-go-round. That punishment was recalled though after intervention by the UN Council for Humanitarian Sanity (UNCHS), partly due to the complaints of the neighbours about the "gross sight of his puke and faecies"(sic). Anyway, now they can't find him.

Manager L. Winia of Team Lidwinia and a prominent visitor to Tuvalu has seen a shady figure with a 1. FC Kaiserslautern shirt acting suspectly on one of Tuvalu's fine beaches. "He's been dragging around four or five things that look like stuffed turkeys and digging holes," he said. This has not yet been confirmed, but rumours go that Paynal is digging the holes in order to enjoy the beach which, according to several independent witnesses, does not appear to taste very well, "unless you happen to catch a crab."

The tactics went well, I kept quiet and supported Sopoanga, Henderson and Limaalofa. Then, at a cobbled section, the magic happened and a group got loose. After that, Sopoanga was in the right wheel and managed to get inside a 5 man group whenre he was the non-sprinter.

A mass sprint victory in a Peloton 1 race. My first. I tried to escape with Haumiatiketike and Limaalofa, but when I tried to bridge to them with Sopoanga, people intervened, because it was a short racxe. So the rest of the race, I had been with Henderson. Amazingly, he won, against all odds.

A very tough race with a decent result. There was a group with Teikauea and Rapanui taking off where Rapanui was one of the two survivors who got caught on the final climb. Then, just under the top, 5 got loose and Barrow got sixth in a group of the second-besters, which is good.
