b) Points classification
The points classification is established by adding the
points earned in the individual classification of each
stage, according to the following scales and subject
to any penalty points:
road stages without any particular difficulties
(art.22-coeff. 1 and 2): 50-30-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-7-6-
5- 4-3-2 points to the first 15 riders;
road stages with a rolling profile (art.22-coeff. 3):
30-25-22-19-17-15-13-11-9-7-6-5-4-3-2 points to the first
15 riders;
road stages with a very difficult profile (art.22-coeff.
4 and 5): 20-17-15-13-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 points to
the first 15 riders;
Individual time trial stages (art. 22-coeff. 6): 20-17-15-
13-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 points to the first 15 riders;
at each intermediate sprint, 20-17-15-13-11-10-9-8-
7-6-5-4-3-2-1 points to the first 15 riders;
In the event of a dead heat during a stage, the riders
concerned are credited with the points that would have
been attributed to those finishing positions, the points
being divided by the number of competitors involved in the tie. Points obtained in this way are rounded up
to the nearest 1/2 point. If riders are equal on points in
this classification, they are separated by their number
of stage wins and then by their number of wins in the
intermediate sprints that count towards the points
classification, and, finally, by their ranking in the general
classification. Only riders who complete the entire Tour
de France shall be included in the points classification.
In the event where a rider or riders finish outside the
time limit but are reinstated by the president of the
commissaires’ jury, they will lose all points awarded to
them in the points classification.


c) Best climber classification
The best climber classification is established by adding
together points obtained on all passes or climbs,
according to the following scale:
super-category (hors catégorie) passes, climbs
or summit finishes: 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-2 points
respectively for first 8 riders classified;
category 1 passes, climbs or summit finishes: 10-
8-6-4-2-1 points respectively to the first 6 riders
classified;
category 2 passes or climbs: 5-3-2-1 points
respectively to the first 4 riders classified;
category 3 passes, climbs or summit finishes: 2-1
points respectively to the first 2 riders classified;
category 4 passes or climbs: 1 point to the first rider
classified.
Double points shall be awarded at the top of the second
ascent of the Mont Ventoux in stage 11 as well as at the
finish of stages 17 and 18. In the event of two riders
being equal on points in the best climber classification,
the rider with the most first places at the summit of
super-category passes or climbs or summit finishes will
be declared the winner. If the riders are still tied, first
places taken on category 1 passes or climbs or summit
finishes will be used to split them. It follows that first
places taken at the summit of category 2 passes or
climbs, category 3 passes or climbs or summit finishes,
or category 4 passes or climbs can also be used to break
a tie, with the general classification used a last resort.
Only riders who complete the entire Tour de France will
be included in the best climber classification.
In the event of a rider or riders finishing outside the
time limit but being reinstated by the president of the
commissaires’ jury, they will lose all points awarded to
them in the best climber classification.
