Rapid Vitesse Fantasy Races

Post by Laurens88 » Sat Jul 14, 2018 3:20 pm

Hi all, I started designing as well! I will focus on relatively short fantasy races, because I believe shorter races are the best way to keep new players interested in the game. Today I designed my first two races.

The first one is a race through Dagestan: the province where all the Russian villains in movies come from. It's in the very south of Russia, so the race could also be on the calendar in September/October when the need for fantasy races is the highest.
The race runs through the lower parts of the Caucasus and finishes in Makhachkala. Most likely the hilly sprinters will get their chance for victory here.

The other race I designed is a race in the honor of Tamerlane (locally known in Uzbekistan as Amir Temur). He was one of the greatest rulers of all time and ruled an empire that encompassed most of Central Asia and Persia. Temur should be just as famous as Dzhengis Khan and Alexander the Great, but is less known due to the fact that his empire collapsed shortly after he died. The race starts on Amir Temur Street in Samarkand: a beautiful city along the Silk Road. In the first few kilometers the riders will pass by the lovely Registan Square - one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, Google it if you never heard of it - and then goes through the mountains to the town where Temur was born: Shahrisabz. The finish line is close to the tomb where Temur was buried.
The race should be a very open one: probably sprinters will not survive the mountain, but the final flat part is probably too long to control completely for teams that want a hilly sprint. So we might see some attacks here. Perhaps even some sprinters can come back, because they will most likely only be siebed in the final kilometers of the climb.

Two more races I had in mind already:

The first one is a very cool one in South Africa. Riders have to climb a part of the Sani Pass: an unpaved mountain pass, that goes all the way up to 2820m with final kilometers of +14 and +17. However, to keep things interesting I put the finish line 10 km away from the top of the mountain, with some flat kilometers after 3 km of +6/+5/+6 with 3* and a finish of +3 (also with 3*). Should be an interesting race.

The next one is just a hilly race in Belize, finishing with a +4. Perfect for strong classics.

At the special request of the Donkey, here are some races I designed recently. :D

Three races in Central Asia for September/October, as it will be too cold there after that. From now on I will focus on the off-season.

Windward Islands Tour

Post by Laurens88 » Wed Oct 16, 2019 7:12 pm

The Windward Islands Tour takes place in the southern part of the Caribbean. Who will win it? A hilly time trial specialist, a pure climber or a classic? Or will an attacker take advantage of the fact that nobody wants to assume the role of favourite in this tour? Anything can happen in this tour! All stages (except for the ITT) count equally for the points classification too, because in the Caribbean they like to keep things simple.

Image
The tour starts off with a short prologue on Mount Hillaby: the highest point on Barbados. Probably the climbers have a slight advantage over the time trial specialists here, but you never know.

Image
Barbados is a relatively flat country, so the second stage should be one for the sprinters. It's possible to sieb them on a small hill around 20 km from the finish line, so a hilly sprint is possible too. And the stage is short, so if the peloton is hesitates a bit, an early escape group may have a good chance here as well.

Image
We move on to Tobago, where we find more hills. The final hill ends with a kilometer at 10%, so it's likely that a climber takes the victory here.

Image
We arrive in Port-of-Spain: the capital of Trinidad & Tobago. Today's stage takes us all around Trinidad. At the end we encounter some steep hills, which will most likely be too heavy for the pure sprinters. Hilly sprinters will be looking for their opportunity, but strong classics who are looking to gain time for the general classification may use the final kilometers as well to attack away from the pure climbers.

Image
The final stage should be an easy mass sprint. However, there is a big hill in the beginning of the stage and there is no more tomorrow to think about, so a strong team could try to make firework here. If there is a climber in the yellow jersey, a late GC attack with classics is a possibility too, especially if not a lot of teams bring their sprinter to this tour...

Had some time to design some races for the spring season. Even designed a (somewhat) hilly race in the Netherlands!

What better place is there to hold a fantasy race these days than in a country where there is no Corona? In Turkmenistan the virus does not exist, according to their president, so he invites all cyclists from RSF to ride a race there.
A side note from the organisation: please instruct your riders to not mention the virus' name while they are there, because otherwise they may disappear for a looong time...
Image

Also Lesotho is still Corona-free, according to their government. No evil dictator there, so riders can speak freely. This is a heavy mountain race. What could also be interesting is the -12% kilometer just 4 km away from the finish line. Fearless riders with good downhill skills may be successful here with a late attack.
Image

Our new Latvian rider Juris Rozitis pointed out to me that there is a town called Priekuli in Latvia. A perfect place to hold a race to honor our ex-rider and current team director Gints Priekulis! In his career at Rapid Vitesse he collected 11 wins, so the race will consist of 11 laps of 11 kilometers.
