Transalp - A tribute to these fascinating mountains
I designed a little tour in honour of the alpes. The Transalp is a "monument" for many amateur cyclists. So I thought of drawing a little tour, a typical "Transalp". Maybe it is possible to ride this stage race in fall or winter, whenever there is time. I called it Transalp 2010, maybe we can start with this edition in 2010 and go on with another edition in 2011. There are a lot of possibilities to cross the alpes by roadbike.

My designed route, goes from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Riva del Garda, the best known location to finish a Transalp. Starting with a short TTT as a warm-up, the course goes on to Italy over the Dolomites. After 14 summits and more than 15.000 heightmeters the stage race ends in Riva.

Transalp 2010 Stage 1: Garmisch-Partenkirchen TTT saved as 2010alpenx01
A 11km long course through Garmisch-Partenkirchen as a warm-up for the upcoming days.

Image

Transalp 2010 - Stage 2: Garmisch - Sterzing saved as 2010alpenx02

Image

Transalp 2010 - Stage 3: Sterzing - Corvara saved as 2010alpenx03

Image

Transalp 2010 - Stage 4: Corvara - Monte Manghen saved as 2010alpenx04

Image

Transalp 2010 - Stage 5: Monte Manghen - Riva del Garda saved as 2010alpenx05

Now I would like to read some critics. It was just an idea which came to my mind and I want to know if anybody agrees with me. The alpes are really great and such a stage race is an honour for these mountains although there are a lot of real races which are raced in the alpes. But the "Transalp" is THE thing for cyclists.

PS: The categorized climbs are just an "fast" idea. If a stage race like a "Transalp" has a chance to be part of RSF, the categories can be discussed.

For sure, TTT was just an idea to make it like an real stage race.

The mtb downhill "Ponalestrasse" would be really great :D But impossible with roadbikes I think ;)

The roads must be all asphalt. I checked it with google earth and if my eyes are not too bad it must be right.

San Francisco Grand Prix saved as sanfrangp
The San Francisco Grand Prix was a road cycling race held in San Francisco, United States in early September. It was as a 1.HC event and in 2005 part of the UCI America Tour. It lasted five years (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

So this race is not really fantasy. Maybe we can put this race in the september calender?

No, but almost. It's the "Colle di Sampeyre". I think I have to put the name in the profile although there will be no mountain points.
