Christmas Tour : Design competition

Post by olmania » Thu Nov 28, 2013 1:13 am

Hi folks !

It seems that many people are reactive, in all ways, to our designing competition and vote for every December/January big tours ... so we want to add a new small and fast competition for the next days !

We invite you, designers, to create in the next days a short Christmas tour.
This tour will take place between the 28th and 30 of December.

Rules:
- Your short tour must be linked to "Chistmas Spirit and Atmosphere" in a way (location, theme, characters ...).
- It will take place for only 3days, make it fit to the Calendar.
- It will take place at the end of December, think about the climate.

You have until the 10th of December to submit your tours.
Then we will have one week for the votes, only one round !

Please post your tours below, all stages in one post.
Another thread is opened for discussion about this project and the proposed tours.

Be fast and efficient and give us a nice Christmas tour !

Thanks ! :)

Cola Christmas Tour

Christmas is coming. And I think for most of the people the red trucks of the brand which invented the world's most famous drink - cola - are a part of the christmas time as from childhood on. So what is better than to organize a whole cycling tour. The Cola Christmas Tour - CCT if you like.
Start of this tour will be at the headquarter in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. From there the tour directly heads into the Appalache mountains by using the Appalachian Highway. We will visit beautiful little towns like Blue Ridge, Franklin or Mountain City. The road invites us to a perfect christmas landscape with soft mountains, cristal clear lakes and snow white trees.

Stage 1a - Prolog

The first stage is a short 3km time trial in the center of Atlanta. After the start near the headquarter of this cola producer the route makes a round to the Olympia park and then finishes right in front of the headquarter. A strong time trialist will win the stage and take over the yellow jersey.

Stage 1b

All the ones who thought this would be already the end for day 1 are wrong. After a short break the riders have to start to the first stage which will lead from Atlanta into the Appalache mountain range. Passing by the famous city of Woodstock the riders take the Appalachian Highway to the little town Blue Ridge where the stage finishes on the coastline of the Blue Ridge Lake. With a +4 as for the last km there are a lot of options. Most likely a strong classic rider will win the stage. But can he also take over the lead in the general classement?

min. tact: km 140
last 5km: -3/-1/-3/1/4

Stage 2

The second day of the tour will be a very long and hard up and down through the Appalache mountain range. After a relaxing start the teams have to cross the Huckleberry Knob - a categorie 1 mountain - which will mark the beginning of the race. The rest of the stage is more or less bumpy with a lot of options for attacks, siebs and hopefully full of action. Everybody who wants to win this stage needs a good tactic, a strong team and lot of valor.

min. tact: km 207
last 5km: -1/0/2/-3/-1
Huckleberry Knob: 26 km/3,9 %/1015 meters height difference
last 5%: km 230
last "sieb": km 210

Stage 3

The last stage leads the teams from Franklin on a 135 kilometer circuit to a town called Mountain City. A stage fully packed with action for the riders who will still suffer from the stage of the day before. Climbs up to the Walnut Creek Road, the Mount Moriah and the King Mountain will force selections and hard fights between the teams still fighting for the tour win. Are the mountain riders still in the fight for the tour win after the stage of the day before or no? The last kms with 2 loops up to the Black Rock and back to Mountain City will decide this tour.

Image

min. tact: km 110
last 5km: 0/6/9/-6/-9
Black Rock: 2 km/7,5%/150 meters height difference

Enjoy christmas time and vote for CCT!!!

RKL here too

Since bad leso always boycotted my great 1 day Tour in Antarctica, I do a 3 day one now!

White Christmas in Antarctica.
There are some sort of roads around McMurdo Base, ok ok ok, it's not really really roads, just kind of, so that's where we will be. But since it's cold it's a 6 riders tour. Don't want to make more of them suffer.

Stage 1a: ITT Start at Scott Base, climb a hill that could be named Transmitters Hill. 7 5 6
Image
A climber or Huber should get the first yellow, or whatever color the leaders jersey will be. RKL would propose white actually.

Stage 1b: TTT on the runaway in Pegasus Field. The biggest Airport in the region. There even have been night landings there. 2 km
Image
A high risk TTT, go for all, play it safe? And what about the leader, fit enough to follow if it's a climber who spend more than his reg in the ITT?

Stage 2: Flat, from Pegasus Field to Williams Field after that to Scott Base. The same route back, then again the same route once more to Scott Base. 105 Km, -1 sprint
Image

Stage 3. HC stage. Start at the tip of the Island, near the Discovery Hut, right next to it actually. Ride into where people at McMurdo live nowadays, then start the 17 km circuit. Castle Rock circuit, it's a hiking circuit I think, but that's ok... it's Christmas after all. Not that I see the connection though...Climb up, pretty horrible downhill, some flat to Scott Base, from there over the hill to McMurdo Station. 6 6 -9 3 the last 4 km. 86 km
Image
Kraftsystemrevision! Include the distance!
Basics reform: Give blue a chance!
Don't punish bugusers. We all have to use bugs, since most of them are declared as "features"!

Reunion de Noel

Christmas under the snow is funny, but under the sun it isn't bad too. So let's go to Reunion during 3 days ! Santa is in short and people eat good food, they just wait to see a good race now for a Chistmas not like another!
For the tour 9 riders / teams looks good, hesitate to cut at 8 or 7, but finally we stay at 9. Now let's see the stages.

Image

First semi-stage, a TTT, 62 km, not flat, enjoy.

Image

Second semi-stage, a flat semi-stage, 100km, should be a sprint, but with the TTT, we never now.

Beaufond : 6 km at 3.3%

Image

A mountain stage, 179km, but the hardest part is during the 100 first km, the finish is flat, J.-F. Pescheux bet on the success of a sprinter for this stage !

Le Dix-Septieme : 5km at 7%
Ilet de Roche Plate : 11km at 10%
Maison de l'Enfance : 4km at 4%
Bois-Blanc : 5km at 6.4%

Image

A TT to start the day, 32km, 13 good km uphill at the end, good to make the decision...

Image

...but the tour won't finish with the TT, but during this last semi-stage ! 170km, only up and down, it can be a big fireworks or a wet firecracker, I hope people prefer fireworks !

Le Guillaume : 11km at 5.1%
Saint-Gilles-Les-Bains : 5km a 6.2%
Le Bois de Nèfles : 17km at 3.6%
La Fontaine : 13km at 6.5%
Village Du Piton : 7km at 5.7%
La Croix : 7km at 5%
L'Etang Salé : 7km at 7.6%
Ravine Des Cabris : 4km at 4.2%

Christmas Espirito Santo Tour !

CEST will take place in eastern Brazil, starting near the coast, and going to the hinterland and the hills during days 2 and 3 !

Breathtaking landscapes guaranteed in a country where Christmas tradition is strong ! Riders will enjoy some Brazilian Panettone for sure :D
Santa will be waiting for the riders in Muniz Freire for late Christmas gifts ! (only for the riders which were good guys during the year, of course!)

Design of this short tour is quite classic, except maybe this short urban pavé sections that might affect the race !

3 days : 4 stages (day 1 with 2 half stages)
1TT
1 Flat stage
1 Pavé (flat) stage
1 Mountain (light pavé) stage

8 categorized climbs:
cat4: x3
cat3: x4
cat2: x1

A TT to start the tour, not too short, so some gaps will be created, and reg might be important for leaders before second half stage !
Image

A pavé stage, half stage to be exact. Teams will have to deal between their leaders during the circuit where a selection will be made, even if it's no more than *** ! A small group of strong riders should sprint for the win in Aracruz !
Image

A sprint stage during day 2. Nothing so dangerous on the way for the sprinter teams. Urban pavé should not split the bunch, except maybe around km125, but it's far away from the finish line. The small hill in the last 10kms is no more than 3%.
Image

Last stage, king stage without a doubt ! It's a long one. First 100kms of the race should be calm, then some splits might happen in narrow cobbled streets in towns. Also a steep km (155) will create a bit of disorder in the bunch ! Last 30kms will be intense, with two short climbs, a *** pavé before them and a ** inbetween them. A last downhill and 2 flat kms should help a strong rider to win and GK leader to win CEST in Muniz Freire !
