Pokemon Cycling Organization has the pleasure to show you the ATLANTIC ISLANDS TOUR, 12 days of an intense competition !
Due to the pandemic situation, we can't do a worthy presentation for December Tour, so we resume the tour quickly.

Image

The Tour start on Venezuela, on Margarita island by an easy sprint stage. There is no big difficulties except the hill of Guyacan at 40km of the finish, a sprinter will normally be the first leader.

Image
Trinidad and Tobago ! The start is hard, riders who target the mountain jersey will surely move for the first time of the tour. But after Arima Pass, sprinters have 140 km to comeback in this stage which is the longest of the tour (204 km)
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202102

Image
For the 3rd stage, we have a long ITT (54 km) in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. With an hill at the beginning and dirty road to finish, a surprise can happen this day.
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202103

Image
Riders interested by GC will fight a second day in a row during this stage in Dominica. The second half of the stage is only up and down until the finish line. Nobody will win the AIT this day, but some can already lose it.
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202104

Image
5th stage, we are now on US Virgin Islands. We have a circuit to ride 2 times, with some hills but far to the finish line, sprinters will make it, but attention at the 2 last km at 3% average...
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202105

Image
We finish the first week at Puerto Rico. A stage for climber, everything will be played in the last climb.
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202106

RESTDAY

Image
We are now in East Atlantic, at Saint-Helena island. A short race in circuit, with up and down, that will be hard.
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202107

Image
Now we are at Sao Tome and Principe, the stage is a bit hilly but I think a sprint is possible. But a breakaway can do it too if sprinters arent enough motivated.
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202108

Image
Stage 9, Bioko island, Equotorial Guinea, the stage is a bit more hilly than the day before with Moca climb in the middle of stage. I think a breakaway will success today. But sprinters are motivated, who knows...
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202109

Image
Cabo Verde, Maio island. The stage is very flat, hard to expect something else than a sprint.
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202110

Image
Cabo Verde, Santo Antao island. A very short stage, but cobbles stage. Climbers can lose a lot of time today.
http://www.radsportfreaks.de/radsport/p ... our_202111

Image
Portugal, Madeira island. Final stage, 168 km, 4 HC, mountain start, nothing more to say except good luck.

RASTA 2021 - Rastafari Tour of Abessinia 2021

Ladies and Gentleman a very warm welcome from Ethiopia former called Abessinia. We decided that this year we should ride in a country that has an extremely long tradition.
As the maybe best known Ethiopian is former Emperor Haile Selassie I which was born as Ras Tafari Makonnen and also known as Neguse Negest (king of the kings in the amharian language),
the name of the tour was pretty clear. Even if we know that not all he did in his reign he is still very well accepted all over the world as he was not only the emperor of one of the oldest states that has ever been but also for leading Ethopia into a modern state which was one of the founding members of the United Nations.

This is can also be seen in the obeisance other states showed him as he was awarded e.g. the highest national orders of:
- Germany
- Austria
- British Empire
- Mexico

But now enough praising and history - Lets go for a hopely nice tour which will lead the riders in 14 days (including 1 restday) all around this beautiful country which is known as the most hilly one all over Africa.
The tour starts and ends in the capital and by far biggest city Addis Abeba. See also the map for further information.

Image

On their journey riders will face:
2142 km in total
165 km per stage (175 km without ITT)
34390 hm of total ascent
2645 hm of ascent per stage (2793 hm without ITT)

The tour consists of:
5 flat stages
4 middle mountain stages
3 HC stages
1 ITT

The Stages will be presented as follows:
Tour Name - Stage Number - Stage Start to Stage Finish - Stage Type - Stage length - Stage ascent - Mintact at - Stage duration

The GPM will be categorized and presented as follows:
Cat. 4 - >250hm or presenters choice - Name - KM - Length - HM - average steepness
Cat. 3 - >500hm or over 350hm and 6% - Name - KM - Length - HM - average steepness
Cat. 2 - >800hm or over 500hm and 6% - Name - KM - Length - HM - average steepness - Steepest KM
Cat. 1 - >1200hm or over 800hm and 6% - Name - KM - Length - HM - average steepness - Last 10km and Steepest km
HC - >1500 hm or over 1000hm and 8% - Name - KM - Length - HM - average steepness - All km starting from the first 4+ and Steepest km

The IS will be categorized and presented as follows:
IS - Name - KM

The last 10km will be presented as follows:

Also important landmarks and other nice things to see will be named as well as the starting and the endpoint of each stage.

So here we go!

RASTA 2021 - Stage 1 - Addis Abeba to Debre Birhan - Stage Type: Flat - Stage Lenght: 174km - Total Ascent: 2080hm - Mintact: KM 159 - Duration: 95 Min

Image

We start with a maybe pretty interesting stage - While the first part is very hilly the last sieb km is nearly 130km from the finish line and more then 70% of the ascent will be done after 50km. So what will happen?
Will some early group go and leave the sprinters a big chance to get the classics back? Or will there be a fight for the red jersey in the peloton which will cause some severe siebs making it really hard for sprinters?
Or will the classics stay really calm, as the next stage might be one for them?
We leave Addis Abeba to the north which means not on the direct way to the stage finish. There waits a first hill which is already categorized as 2 with the GPM beeing situated nearly the botanical garden of Addis Abeba.
Following the A3 main route until nearly Chancho the riders will then reach a part which the government told us will be asphalted until the race but as they are not sure to get the uphill to Gara Dima another Cat.3 ready for the race start we asked them to mainly do the downhill part that follows to avoid the pave bug. So the riders will see the only gravel parts of this tour there but still on a pretty good road
with 1* and some 2*.
Now riders head back to the main road to Debre Birhan reaching an IS at Dire and then another hill at Fiche Gelila which consists only of 5 maximum.
In the village of Shano at KM 127 then the second sprint takes place before riders continue north east to Debre Birhan which is also a bigger city but not comparable at all to Addis Abeba.
Before sprinters can be really secure about their victory now they have to take attention as the second last km is a 3, so maybe a puncheur could beat them?

GPM:
Cat.2 - Gulele Botanical Garden - KM 9 - 9km - 600hm - 6,7% - 12 at KM8
Cat.3 - Gara Dima - KM 50 - 14km - 750hm - 5,7%
Cat.4 - Fiche Gelila - KM 107 - 9km - 230hm - 2,6%

IS:
Dire - KM 67
Shano - KM 127

Last 10KM:
0, 0, -1, -1, 0, -2, -2, 0, 3, 0

RASTA 2021 - Stage 2 - Debre Birhan to Gundo Meskel - Stage Type: Middle Mountain - Stage Lenght: 202km - Total Ascent: 2860hm - Mintact: KM 180 - Duration: 112 Min

Image

On Stage 2 one of the longest stages of this tour is awaiting the riders. Also here is the question who will go for what? Indeed it looks like maybe a chance for brave escapers!
We will start in Debre Birhan where yesterdays stage finished and go always West and flat to Lemi where the first IS takes part.
From Lemi on the riders will find an interesting profile and also some beautiful landscape. But they wont have much time to take a look at the waterfalls as the downhill that follows in the next 20km is very steep!
But was it now Haile Selassie or TTV who said: Once the road goes down it will go up again - So lets head for the first GPM of the day which will be held in Fetra and Categorized 2.
The climb itself is a bit special as indeed it consists of 3 climbs with steep km and flat parts in between.
The riders now reached a plateau the will follow for a bit over 10km to Alem Ketama where todays second IS takes part.
After that IS it goes guess what? Right downhill again before after passing a short non categorized hill which indeed has a siebkm we reach the climb to Rema that is shorter but a bit more steep as the one before. Here then theres the latest point to regain a bit of energy as at KM 180 the final climb of the stage is coming up.
We try to reach the city of Gundo Meskel beeing situated on another plateau. Who will win here as after the climb 5 flat km into the cities centre follow?

GPM:
Cat.2 - Fetra - KM 122 - 20km - 860hm - 4,3% - 11 at KM 113
Cat.3 - Rema - KM 167 - 10km - 590hm - 5,9%
Cat.2 - Gundo Meskel - KM 197 - 660hm - 6,6% - 11 at KM 192

IS:
Lemi - KM 81
Alem Ketama - KM 134

Last 10km:
7, 7, 9, 9, 4, 1, -2, 1, 0, 0

RASTA 2021 - Stage 3 - Ejere to Amanuel - Stage Type: Flat - Stage Lenght: 186km - Total Ascent: 2490hm - Mintact: KM 171 - Duration: 100 Min

Image

A flat stage with a Cat. 1 GPM that nearly reaches HC in it? Really? Well this one is questionable somehow youre right. But how should we categorize this one? Its really not middle mountain as this Cat. 1 very early in the Race is also the only real thread for our riders today! And even more some guys might be very tired after yesterday and not willing to attack the sprinters with at least a little hillskill.
We start in Ejere not far from yesterdays finish and follow the main road to Gohatsion with its IS at exactly KM 50.
Then we have a long but not to steep downhill into one of the most famous nature wonders in Africa - The gorge of the blue nile with a descent of nearly 1500hm.
Wow thats relaxing even more as the downhill is not very steep or curvy, so riders can relax take a break and give some attention to this famous place!
After that relaxing thing the big Cat. 1 to Dejen is waiting ... wow uphill and uphill and more uphill.
So let the chase for the final 85km begin! The route is changing its direction nearly only west now and its nearly flat but with some slight chances for classics to gain some seconds here and there with 3 and 4 beeing the steepest km waiting.
But in the end another little challenge is waiting as the finish is slightly uphill with max. 3 in gradient! So sprinters? Are you brave and powerful enough - maybe even spared a classic instead of a flat rider?!

GPM:
Cat.1 - Dejen - KM 91 - 19km - 1370hm - 7,2% - 11 at KM 88 - 5, 6, 6, 7, 6, 7, 11, 7, 5, 6

IS:
Gohatsion - KM 50
Debre Markos - KM 159

Last 10 km:
-1, -1, 1, 3, 2, 3, 3, 1, 2, 2

RASTA 2021 - Stage 4 - Finicha'a to Seyo - Stage Type: Middle Mountain - Stage Lenght: 165km - Total Ascent: 2300hm - Mintact: KM 131 - Duration: 99 Min

Image

Stage 4 starts after a short transfer from yesterdays finish at the lovely Lake Finicha'a and leads the riders to the south where the mountains will soon await them. In german you would call this stage in this beautiful language "Überführungsetappe" what means transition stage.
But that would be unfair for this stage as even if this stage is just somewhere in the middle it could be something for escapers going or for a classic rider that wants to gain a bit of time against mountain riders.
The first 45km are nearly totally flat bringing us to Wayu where the first sprint and the first GPM wait. The uphill then is pretty long but due to its relatively low steepness and some flat part in between it was decided to split a possible Cat.3 into 2 Cat. 4 mountains. The following downhill then is also not to steep so that riders can maybe take a look to the left and see Addis Abeba where we started 4 days before. Hopefully they are not looking
too much though as a another IS is placed in the middle of the downhill. When the riders reached the lowest point there are some hilly km before the biggest difficulty of the day waits.
The climb to the city of Shenen which might be interesting as the "only" 4,9% in average might make somebody misscount. It starts pretty flat with more like 3,5% and then on the last kilometres suddenly gets steeper reaching up to 10%
Also the following downhill is more or less not all to steep so that classic riders with downhill could get rid of the pure mountain guys there and gain a little advantage they need for the final km in Seyo which is a 6.

GPM:
Cat.4 - Wayu Mountain - KM 50 - 10km - 490hm - 4,9%
Cat.4 - Jarso - KM 67 - 3km - 170hm - 5,7%
Cat.2 - Shenen Pass - KM 136 - 18km - 890hm - 4,9% - 10 at KM 132

IS:
Wayu - KM 39
Gedo - KM 94

Last 10 km:
-1, -2, -1, -1, -2, -6, -7, -8, -8, -6, 6

RASTA 2021 - Stage 5 - Sirambi to Kara - Stage Type: ITT - Stage Lenght: 44km - Total Ascent: 880hm - Mintact: KM 1 - Duration: 44 Min

Image

One of the reasons why we said that yesterday somebody escaping could win is surely todays stage. Its the ITT and it is long and hilly!
Starting in Sirambi riders will go after a short flat or even a bit downhill part for the climb to the Botor Becho Pass. This one starts with only
slight kms before from km 15 to km 19 the hardest part starts which is 8% in average. After that the final km to the pass will be a bit flatter again
reaching mostly 4 or 5%. When the pass is reached it goes downhill first steeper then flatter to the village of Kara. When the riders passed kara they will just have 7 more nearly totally flat km until they reach the finish line. So today the yellow jersey might change its owner!

GPM:
Cat.2 - Botor Becho - KM 26 - 12km - 730hm - 6,1% - 11 at KM 19

IS:
-

Last 10 km:
-3, -2, -3, -1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 2 0

RASTA 2021 - Stage 6 - Bonga to Tuta - Stage Type: HC Mountain - Stage Lenght: 142km - Total Ascent: 4240 hm - Mintact: KM 106 - Duration: 89 Min

Image

This stage could after the hard ITT be so nice with only 142km to go ... but looking at the profile some riders might be a bit curious
about the following mountain stage. We start in Bonga and directly climb the Oda Pass which is long but not to steep.
From there on the route continues mainly on some kind of plateau before we reach Mecha where a IS takes place and then the following little pass, that will lead riders into the long way down to the valley. But those around 1000hm down will be broken in 2 by a series of short but around 6-7% steep climbs including the GPM at Amaya Chide.
Now the route changes its direction to Aba where another short and steep climb awaits followed by the Mylios Lake Mountain and the Mylios Lake sprint. We are unlucky about that names but even with research the presenter didnt find another name to us around there.
But what his research brought was the information that the nearby climb to Tuta would be a nice first test for the strong mountain riders.
Will they try to attack early as the next days are flat - restday? Or will someone ride for his 80-70? We will see

GPM:
Cat.2 - Oda Pass - KM 20 - 19km - 1010hm - 5,3% - 11 at KM 19
Cat.4 - Mecha Pass - KM 44 - 5km - 260hm - 5,2%
Cat.3 - Amaya Chida - KM 71 - 5km - 360hm - 7,2%
Cat.4 - Aba - KM 95 - 4km - 320hm - 8%
Cat.3 - Mylios Lake Mountain - KM 110 - 5km - 420hm - 8,4%
Cat.1 - Tuta - KM 142 - 20km - 6,9% - 1380hm - 13 at KM 139, 7, 8, 5, 10, 8, 7, 13, 3, 1, 6

IS:
Mecha - KM 39
Mylios Lake - KM 122

Last 10 km:
7, 8, 5, 10, 8, 7, 13, 3, 1, 6

RASTA 2021 - Stage 7 - Sodo to Gidole - Stage Type: Flat - Stage Lenght: 181km - Total Ascent: 650 hm - Mintact: KM 166 - Duration: 97 Min

Image

As the presenters wished for one thing: Make Reg for the single GC Rider pretty important but dont let riders that once rode hard for their captain be death for all over the tour we now see something like a double restday.
This stage invites those riders as well as the sprinters. We start in the city of Sodo nearby yesterdays finish and head straight southwards leaving the highlands and go down to Lake Abayo for the first 45km. There we ride in this "Lakes stage" alongside passing Wajifo where we see a IS.
The only GPM today will be held in Arba Minch. This means "fourty sources" and the city is situated on some hills called "bridge of gods".
The are separating Lake Abayo and Lake Chamo where we go next. Most likely pretty controlled we roll on the brought sea promenade until we
reach the second sprint. On the southern end of Lake Chamo riders go into a 90° turn which leads them directly to the Lake where riders will sprint for the win!

GPM:
Cat.4 - Arba Minch - KM 120 - 7km - 220hm - 3,1%

IS:
Wajifo - KM 54
Lake Chamo - KM 163

Last 10 km:
1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0, 1

--- REST DAY --- REST DAY --- REST DAY ---

RASTA 2021 - Stage 8 - Selam Ber to Belta - Stage Type: HC Mountain - Stage Lenght: 148km - Total Ascent: 5230 hm - Mintact: KM 118 - Duration: 89 Min

Image

What should riders do after a rest day? They should suffer! So we see the a short but very very intense stage culminating in the hardest climb of the tour to Belta!
Riders start the journey near to Selam Ber in the middle of the Maze National Park having a circle around the city after they had a wonderful night in Arba Minch.
The race starts then directly with the first of 3 big climbs of this stage and surely the easiest of them. Afterwards a long downhill lead them into the valley of Selam Ber where the longest flat part of the stage follows. When riders reached Selam Ber after the first IS they will see already the second climb (and the first HC of the tour!) thats much harder and near HC awaiting them.
We are now heading to the Eso pass that starts flat and becomes steeper on the last 13km but shortly before reaching it they take a small road changing direction to the west and ride over a plateau before the next and longest downhill of the day awaits with nearly 1700hm.
But that downhill is needed to regain energy and hopefully be near to 1000 before the extremely hard climb to Belta follows which might remind some riders of the andes they had to climb shortly before. Over 2000hm and an average of nearly 15% for the last km means you can only have chances if youre really strong there - By the way we will also go for the "Ras Ta Fari price" for the hardest climb of the tour! The finish then follows after a very short flat part but this is for climbers and nothing else!

GPM:
Cat.2 - Maze National Park - KM 18 - 18km - 1030hm - 5,7% - 11 at KM 16
Cat. HC - Eso pass - KM 69 - 20km - 1530hm - 7,7% - 5, 6, 10, 11, 4, 7, 11, 14, 13, 4, 13, 14, 6, 12, 8 - 14 at KM 62 and 66
Cat. HC - Belta - KM 141 - 18km - 2090hm - 11,6% - 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 15, 12, 11, 7, 9, 11, 13, 17, 14, 15, 10, 19, 11 - 19 at KM 140

IS:
Selam Ber - KM 46
Chenche - KM 120

Last 10 km:
10, 19, 11, 3, 1, -2, 0, 1, 0, 3

RASTA 2021 - Stage 9 - Selam Ber to Wib Hamer - Stage Type: Middle Mountain - Stage Lenght: 172km - Total Ascent: 3280 hm - Mintact: KM 128 - Duration: 108 Min

Image

Today we start again in Selam Ber, but we take a different route following the main street to southwest first up a little uncategorized hill and then more or less flat to Sala Fewege Neway where the difficulties of this day start. On this way we also pass the 2 IS of the day. The first climb is then also clearly the hardest of the day reaching up to Berza on a narrow and steep road (Cat. 1). After that one a pretty long downhill leads us directly into the second climb which is a cat.2 and that also is the point where the (long) mintact starts. From there on the road will be a little easier but there are
2 more climbs that follow still. Those are much flatter and shorter but still they could make it hard for weak classics to follow so the question is will it be mountain, classic or a 80-70 guy to win after 3 flat km into the finish?

GPM:
Cat.1 - Berza - KM 94 - 9km - 870hm - 9,7% - 5, 12, 7, 9, 13, 11, 16, 11, 13 - 16 at KM 92
Cat.2 - Gelta - KM 134 - 8km - 630hm - 7,9% - 10 at KM 132
Cat.4 - Unnamed Pass - KM 152 - 6km - 290hm - 4,8%
Cat.3 - Malokoza - KM 161 - 4km - 370hm - 9,2%

IS:
KM 59
Sala Fewege Neway - KM 75

Last 10 km:
-12, -7, -12, -11, -4, -9, -7, 2, 0, 1

RASTA 2021 - Stage 10 - Bulu to Dima - Stage Type: Flat - Stage Lenght: 181km - Total Ascent: 2120 hm - Mintact: KM 166 - Duration: 98 Min

Image

Normally sprinters wouldnt have a chance here but with the 2 stages before and those following most likely classics will try to save power so it could be a fight between sprinters and escapers.
Starting at Bulu we cross the wonderful Omo National Park where we also sprint. The streets are mostly broad (for Ethiopian conditions at least) and flat until Kibish seeing another IS there.
Then the 2 difficulties wait crossing some hills between those lowlands that are short but steep both nearly reaching 10%.
Afterwards 70 more km give the sprinters time to catch up beeing flat - downhill and then flat again so good luck guys you will need to win this one if you want to have a chance for the points jersey!

GPM:
Cat.2 - Maji - KM 99 - 6km - 570hm - 9,3% - 13 at KM 97
Cat.3 - Aru - KM 112 - 4km - 400hm - 10%

IS:
Omo National Park - KM 48
Kibish - KM 90

Last 10 km:
-2, -3, 1, -1, 1, 0, -1, -2, -1, 0

RASTA 2021 - Stage 11 - Saja to Schadda - Stage Type: HC Mountain - Stage Lenght: 195km - Total Ascent: 5050 hm - Mintact: KM 147 - Duration: 122 Min
Image

So guys you have nearly done it with the high mountains - But today you will have to cross some more of them. We directly start with the climb from the valley of river Gojeb to the village of Saja.
After reaching that first goal we follow the highlands to Kuti where we see the first IS right before the downhill leading us towards the next mountain awaits us.
When we are in Gojeb city the toughest climb of the day starts and even if its more then 100km to go we might see already some action here from a desperate guy that tries to better his position in GC.
Over 1000hm and far over 10% getting steeper and steeper are really something that cries for an early offensive! But dont forget to have some classic here because the road is now mainly flat or only a bit downhill until KM 124 where the last hard mountains of this tour start. (btw. we have another IS in between!)
Now we see 3 mountains directly following each other. First we climb a part of the Oda Pass already known from stage 6 but this time on a slightly different (harder) road.
Next we reach the Dura Pass where also the mintact starts at km 147. This one is less steep - but dont underestimate it as the first km are hard and look promising for the gc fight if the favorite sleeps! Only 34km more of downhill to go (divided in 2 by a little ascent of 7-7) and then the big final awaits.
We go for Schadda another climb not to underestimate as the "only" 6,9% come also from a 3, 6, 2, -1, 4 intermezzo after the first 3 steep km.
Normally after that one we should know who will take the yellow jersey to Addis Abeba!

GPM:
Cat.2 - Saja - KM 7 - 7km - 540hm - 7,7% - 10 at KM 1

The last mountains of the tour await us but compared to yesterday they are not worth mentioning, even if today is the last chance for classic riders to win something!
Starting in Sokoru we ride northwards alongst the Gibe national park passing Kumbi where we see an IS and another one at Welkite where the road turns to the east.
But in between we go up to the famous Abelti View where riders can see some wonderful and special landscape.
After another flat parts it goes up to the really last mountain. While it is a Cat. 1 due to many heighmeters it is not very steep at all climbed from the eastside.
Then only a short downhill follows where classics can catch up guys that escaped and the stage finishes in Butajira city.

Atlantic Islands it is!

A favorite time plus starting date (Mon-Sat or Tue-Sun) since it's only 13 days by the designer now please!

On the ITT want to take the bug-risk or not? No idea if the downhill pavé affects the ITT as well, might be absolutely no problem. Might give strange results on those 2 km.

Despite my better judgement I have included the January Tour in my preview to Luques..... 11 days, so Chense will have to cut 3 days (well, rest day I suppose, plus 2). Ideally before christmas, I will be away from my computer a few days from the 26th and don't trust myself to put stuff online from the mobile (plus not in the mood either really) so.... otherwise will be on the 30/31st most likely.
